About this product
Here We Go Magic is a five-piece band made up of members Luke Temple, Kristina Lieberson, Michael Bloch, Jennifer Turner, and Peter Hale. They originally came together in New York in early 2009 through a series of chance encounters, overheard conversations and supernatural occurrences. Since this initial spark, the band's creative momentum has been unwavering. Together they have developed a broad array of musical material and honed an explosive live sound all on their own. After spending much of 2009 on successive North American and European tours with bands such Department of Eagles, Grizzly Bear, and the Walkmen, the group escaped to an old farmhouse in upstate New York, to record their second full length LP, 'Pigeons'. 'Pigeons' is a far more collaborative effort than their debut. While boasting an ever expanding approach, 'Pigeons' retains the unique, psychedelic textures that define the Magic sound.

The January EP's six songs complete the songwriting cycle that Here We Go Magic began in an upstate New York farm house upon the commencement of their critically-acclaimed sophomore LP Pigeons (2010, Secretly Canadian). The band's signature mix of swirling guitars, krautrock grooves, pulsing synths, and hushed chants provide a foundation for these otherworldly songs.

With the help of super producer Nigel Godrich, a Different Ship is Here We Go Magic's most remarkable and captivating album yet, with an emotional and musical arc that is alternately calming and anxiety-inducing, and often both at once. InchI Believe in ActionInch and InchMake Up Your MindInch sound like they're being beamed in from outer space, while more earthbound tracks such as InchMiracle of Mary,Inch InchOver the OceanInch and InchAlone But MovingInch amble in a somnolent haze, with Temple's cool timbre cutting through the fog.

Luke Temple is certainly held in high regards amongst the US underground. From Sufjan to Ben Gibbard and Grizzly Bear, Luke and his new group Here We Go Magic have a ton of supporters. Developed over a two-month period of stream of consciousness recording in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Luke's self-titled debut under his new moniker Here We Go Magic is a remarkable departure from his signature singer/songwriter material. Luke recorded the album at home using analog synths, a cassette 4-track, and his trusty SM-57 mic, coloring the sound with warmth and creating textures.
