I am coming from owning an LG OLED tv that is about 4 years old. It is a great TV without a doubt. I also own two Sony LCD tvs that were mid tier televisions when I got them. They were just ok. They had much better brightness than my LG OLED, however they lacked dark inky blacks. All LCD / LED tvs for the last few years have never quite gotten to the same “inky black” levels as my LG OLED tv. That is until now. I won’t quite say this UR8 tv, the first year Hisense has moved to its new RGB MiniLED technology, is as deep a black, but it is VERY, VERY CLOSE!! This TV is actually going to actually replace my LG OLED in my living room that has windows on two sides. The OLED always struggled with brightness in this room. This Hisense UR8 does not, while giving me near “inky blacks”. Top that off with this TV gets very bright. Much brighter than my OLED could ever, or even my other Sony T. The brightness helps overcome reflections from the windows and light in my living room. This TV is actually one step down from the UR9 TV Hisense released just a few months ago. That TV is better in that it has a higher peak brightness, however it is much more expensive, and lacks 4 HDMI 2.1 ports. This TV has 4 HDMI 2.1 ports, and while it does not match the peak brightness of the UR9, I cannot imagine it being much brighter than this UR8 in my bright living room. The TV OS on GoogleTV which is so much better than the LG OLED OS by leaps and bounds. It is actually pretty snappy, and much faster than the processor in my LG. I no longer feel I need a separate streaming box. Most people can just use all of the built OS apps with no need for an AppleTV or other streaming box. Even apps like KODI can be installed, as the OS is GoogleTV. This is a big 75” TV, and it is hard to take out and set up for just one person. Make sure you have one other person to help you pull it out of the box. The included stand is very nice and heavy. Included are a remote, batteries, power cord, TV stand made of a very heavy metal and the hardware for attaching it. There are different levels you can attach the stand to on the back of the TV in case you need room to fit a soundbar underneath it. The UR8 has 4 HDMI 2.1 ports with one of them being a eARC port. Make sure you use the HDMI port labeled eARC so that you get proper surround sound passthru if you are using a soundbar. The WiFi protocol is Wifi 6E. My WiFi router is right next to my TV, and I got my full bandwidth across WiFi. This TVs picture quality is fantastic. I really do think it is overall better than my OLED tv given how bright it gets. Even contrast is great for HDR and DV content. I tried playing 4K Blu-Rays on it and all looked great. The motion handling is great, and there are several preset motion handling and picture modes. I also played Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, and all displayed everything at least as good as my OLED with no fear of ever getting burn-in on this TV. When gaming there is also a separate gaming mode that will show you frame rates, HDR modes, and VRR settings. Within that game mode, there are also other interface “themes” you can choose from, that can change the screen interface to match which type of console you have connected. AMD FreeSync Premium Pro supported too for no screen tearing. That is great as this TV can display up to 180hz! One thing that has always concerned me with LED/LCD tvs is dimming zones. Even when watching movies that have black bars on the top and bottom, in HDR or Dolby Vision, I could not really notice any white glow in those areas like I would with my other LCD tvs. This is also considering that this tv has less local dimming lights than the step up model in the UR9. The more dimming zones you have the less likely you will be able to see that glowing. I was surprised to see how good this was, especially as I have been used to watching content on an OLED for a few years now where this excels. Color reproduction is also very good if not great on 4K Blu-Ray content. The Mad Max Fury Road 4K Blu-Ray is my go to for checking color and contrast. This TV surpassed even what I think my OLED delivered in terms of color. I would also say that contrast is nearly the same as what I see on my OLED on the same films, possibly even better on this TV as it reaches a higher level of brightness. It is certainly much better than my Sony LCD TV which looked pretty good at the time I bought it also. The color saturation is just so good with the RGB MiniLED on this TV. The sound on this TV is also very good. It won’t be replacing a soundbar or surround sound receiver with speakers, however this is one of the best sounding TVs I have ever heard. It has a built in subwoofer on the back of the TV, along with two stereo speakers on either side facing the back as well. The remote is pretty basic but has everything you would need on it, including a button for Google Assistant, and a few other apps that are built in to the GoogleTV OS. All in all, this TV is probably the best bang for your buck of all the RGBMini LED tvs to come out this year, including Hisense's own UR9 TVs. Highly recommended!!!

This is actually my second Hisense TV. My first one was a personal purchase—I went for it because of the price, features, and overall value. I’ll be honest, I was a little hesitant at first since I had never owned a Hisense TV before and didn’t know what to expect. But after using it, the colors, brightness, operating system, and overall responsiveness completely won me over. So when I got the chance to check out a newer model, I jumped on it—and I’m glad I did. Hisense is seriously on a roll. Let’s get into what the new UR8 Mini LED 4K HDR Smart Google TV brings to the table. Specifications: Height without stand: 37.9 inches / with stand: 39.9 inches Width: 65.7 inches Depth without stand: 2.3 inches / with stand: 12.2 inches Weight without stand: 66.6 pounds / with stand: 76.1 pounds Sound Quality: First up, the sound—and honestly, this might be my favorite part. If you’ve got a soundbar, you might not even need it here. The Hisense UR8 features a built-in 2.1.2 multi-channel surround sound system tuned by Devialet, and it genuinely delivers. This isn’t your typical “TV speakers just exist” situation. You get dedicated height channels that create a more immersive soundstage. Dialogue is crisp, bass has real punch, and with DTS Virtual:X, you can actually feel the direction of the sound in action scenes. It pulls you into whatever you’re watching instead of just playing audio at you. Picture Quality: Of course, sound alone isn’t enough—the picture has to match, and it absolutely does. The RGB Mini LED technology on this TV is impressive. Instead of using a single white backlight like traditional Mini LED TVs, this one uses red, green, and blue LEDs, which takes color accuracy and vibrancy to another level. Colors look richer and more natural, blacks are deep and actually black (not gray), and everything pops in 4K HDR. Whether you’re watching movies, bingeing shows, or gaming, the experience just feels elevated. And yes—this TV is built for gaming too. With HDMI 2.1 support, a native 180Hz game mode, VRR, ALLM, and an enhanced game bar, it checks all the boxes. Playing on my PS5 felt incredibly smooth and responsive—honestly closer to a gaming monitor than a traditional TV. Smart Features: Google TV keeps things simple and easy to use. Setup was quick—about 10 minutes with an update—and I was up and running. All the major apps are there like Netflix, YouTube, and Prime Video, and since it’s based on Android, you’ve got the option to sideload apps if that’s your thing. If you’re already in the Google ecosystem, this gets even better. I can control my Google Home devices directly from the TV, including checking my security cameras, which is a nice bonus. Overall: I’m genuinely impressed. Between the standout RGB Mini LED picture, the Devialet-tuned audio, and all the gaming and smart features, the Hisense UR8 delivers way more than most people expect. At this point, it’s safe to say Hisense isn’t just competing—they’re making a serious statement.

The build quality of this television is great. It seems very solidly built. Everything appears to made of plastic but it’s appreciated considering the weight. I would say it seems to be a pretty average television thickness. The bezels are pretty small and not distracting while watching content. The remote is good. It has six buttons at the top , including for Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney Plus, and “Kid”. The sixth button is user assignable. The setup of this tv was pretty straightforward. It was protected really well—it was centered in the box with foam padding the ends. One thing I did find frustrating was when I opened the box the way it was designed to open, the instructions got stuck in the part that was removed, so it took me a while to find them, and I struggled to find the instructions for my exact model online. I tried both mounting the TV to the included stand and mounting the TV to the wall and both operations were easy. The packing material are designed to elevate the TV off the ground to allow the stand to be installed with a few bolts. The mounting of the television was straightforward with VESA mounting holes included on the back. There are many connectivity options on this device. There are 4 included HDMI 2.1 ports, with one being dedicated to ARC. There are two USB ports and an optical port. Wireless options include Google TV and built in AirPlay. Everything worked seamlessly in my testing. Speaking of Google TV, it makes the smart features on this television really nice. Basically it has an entire streaming box built in. The nice thing about it being Google TV is that it’s really smooth and I am sure it will get updates for the foreseeable future. It also has Gemini built in which is very useful. If Gemini isn’t your thing, you can also use Alexa. I found the sound on the TV to be good. I personally feel that TV speakers are inherently limited, but for TV speakers I thought they worked well. The TV panel itself is great. It’s super bright, super high fidelity, responsive, and has great viewing angles. While Hisense claims it has a reflection reducing screen, I do still see faint reflections from lights, but it’s negligible. I put this tv through its paces. I watched a number of content types—a movie, television, YouTube, and gaming. Project: Hail Mary looked amazing. The scenes in outer space showed off the excellent contrast that mini LED has to offer. When I was watching Ted Lasso with Dolby Vision on my Apple TV, it also looked great. I did notice some faint flickering at times, I read online this may be an issue between the TV and Apple TV, so hopefully it will be fixed in a later update. Gaming is where I find this TV to shine. I have my gaming PC hooked up to it, and it takes full advantage of the native 180hz refresh rate, AMD freesync, and variable refresh rate. I played a number of titles, including Palworld, Denshattack, and the Witcher 3. All produced great results. Overall this is a great television I would recommend to someone looking for a great picture, lot of features, and at a value price.

I am very particular about video resolution, sharpness, color saturation, frame rate per output, motion fluidity and screen brightness. This TV is so good, it is making me rewatch all my favorite movies. This TV is a huge surprise for me. The colors are vibrant. The screen is bright even at daytime with very less glare in my living room with French glass doors. The blacks are so deep they're like OLED quality-- not super black but black enough to make end credits FLOAT while watching at night. The blacks have such a wide range that a scene can be dark and I can still see the difference within shades of gray. And I can make a dark scene bright without it washing out the shadows. About the sound, do not compare it to your surround sound. But off the bat, the sound quality is even better than those small 2.1 sound bars. There is a good amount of bass-- very uncommon for slim LEDs. The sound stage is wide however it lacks depth. The sound pretty much sits on a slim range so echoey attempts will sound like fishbowl sound. But it projects wide from side to side. Overall though, if you are not exposed to external speakers, the TV sound is good on its own. Software-wise, I love it that it's a GoogleTV. I did experience a big bug though, which seems to be quite known-- the TV shuts off after streaming ads from Disney Plus, prime video or HBO max. I tried to tweak each setting and searched through the internet and cannot find solution. Luckily I have a fire stick lying around and I ended up having to use it instead. It is working but of course, I am missing the native navigation and features. Hisense has to figure out that sleeping tv bug. The Hisense settings infused with googleTV is so fluid, it's a shame that the user friendliness of everything is compromised when I have to use an external source just to watch without interruption. Other than the bug, casting, and other software features are great. It even has camera gesture settings to control the TV if I put a matching camera. What I love the most is the AI picture settings because the auto modes just make the videos pop without having to do so much tweak to other settings. Now comparing the on-tv software to the responsiveness of a streaming source, of course GoogleTV is fast, clean, stutterless, and the picture settings straight up are perfect. I had to mimic the picture settings of the original native GoogleTV settings to the fire stick because I really love how the default picture settings look. An external 4k source though sometimes slows, but that's more a source concern. There is a tendency to have the soap opera effect because of the fast refresh rate of the panel. So I know, in time, I will have really precise settings for specific viewing modes, even with the presence of the onboard auto settings. I don't think I have been excited to watch on a TV before this Hisense TV. I even let go of my bigger 86 for this 75 because the quality is just unbelievable. This is such a great product, it took away all my hesitations with this brand, even with the presence of the software bug. I am sure anyone who experiences this will feel the same. See for yourself.

It’s amazing how fast new TV tech can make it to market, but what’s ridiculous is that Hisense made it reasonably affordable too. The UR8 line features a new RGB MiniLED display that basically combines the black levels and pixel contrast of OLED with the brightness and power efficiency of LED. There’s also no fear of burn-in, it’s Pantone color accuracy calibrated, and handles seemingly every major HDR platform. And if that doesn’t already sound like a list of great features, the speakers aren’t half bad either. Seriously, I pretty much expect flat panel TV’s to have awful and practically unuseful speakers, but this TV plays loud and clear. There’s supposedly a subwoofer and Dolby Atmos upfiring speakers, but they’re honestly not that noticeable. I still highly recommend a proper surround system with a real subwoofer, but at least I don’t feel like I need to buy a soundbar just to watch sports or the news. Overall, it’s an excellent TV that uses new RGB MiniLED tech for a beautiful and bright image with deep black levels and no burn-in. If you’re in the market for an OLED, but are concerned about screen burn-in or that it won’t be bright enough, I highly suggest looking at the Hisense UR8 series. PICTURE QUALITY Outstanding 4K Pantone color calibrated image. Handles pretty much all HDR modes, has a 180hz refresh rate, produces deep black levels, and no fear of screen burn-in. The promise of RGB MiniLED was to combine the strengths of both LED and OLED and I’d say it’s mission accomplished. Motion plays smoothly without any jitters and I appreciate the wide viewing angle on this 75”. If I have any complaints it’s that the screen isn’t as reflection free as it’s marketed. Window glare is noticeable as is recessed ceiling lighting. It doesn’t really bother me, but it’s not as reflection free as they make it sound. That’s about it for complaints though. Maybe the most impressive thing about this TV to me is that I didn’t feel the need to spend half a day tuning the image. The picture is great out of the box and even the Ai picture tuning modes work well. Up to this point in my life I’ve always adjusted the image, until now. SOUND QUALITY Sound is tuned by Devialet. If you’re unfamiliar, Devialet is a high end French audio company that makes some really interesting speakers and amps. This is my first interaction with them, and while I expect more from an audiophile brand the speakers do sound good for a flat panel TV. It’s lacking in the bass department, but I love how loud and clear the vocals are. I have the TV hooked up to an external amp with surround sound, but I find myself using the TV audio more. Speaking of which, if you have an older AV receiver the optical toslink output on this TV works great and even outputs Dolby Digital, which was a very nice surprise. I was able to connect my laptop and play Cyberpunk 2077 and Forza Horizon 6 in Dolby Digital surround and… life is good man. There’s also a good mix of audio tuning options like EQ, balance, lip synch timing, and a few Ai modes. But if I wanted to, the optical audio output makes it compatible with my older AVR that doesn’t have any HDMI inputs. BUILD QUALITY Solid build with brushed metal accents on the remote and TV base. The TV is thicker than average, but I think the Devialet speaker system needs the extra space to use like a speaker cabinet. The remote has a nice heft to it and I’m happy to say it’s fully Fios TV+ box compatible. This TV’s picture is easily 5 stars, I’d even go as far as to say it’s more than that! The picture quality is FANTASTIC. The colors, the way it handles bright and dark scenes, and as a gamer, the PS5 Pro, and my Series X look incredible. Motion is great, it isn’t smearing that mutch, and the brightness is great! This TV’s picture is legit amazing! Highly recommended for the picture alone! But and this is a big but, if you’re looking for a good software experience and good picture, well the software may make you angry… like it did me! Seriously the software experience dampened what could be an awesome TV. Perhaps a future firmware will fix my gripes, but right now it drives me nuts. First of all, I can’t express enough how much the display/panel impressed me. From TV, Movies, and Games “muah” chef’s kiss! Now on to the software, first as a gamer, having my PS5 Pro set to VRR causes the screen to ‘switch modes’ so to speak. Basically it clicks, goes black, then goes into a different mode for my PS5. Not that bad you’d think but it does it for every game launch, and if you happen to want to look at the TV settings while you’re playing, then guess what, it clicks, goes black, and then shows the menu. Oh but wait, if you go to picture settings from the normal settings, it click/goes black again, to the PS5 mode so you can alter the picture settings, then it’ll do it again when you exit the menu, then do it again when you exit the settings menu. Also if you enable FreeSync, it will force your brightness to 75, no matter what you have it at. 100, 60, etc. It’ll switch it back to 75 no matter what. This was particularly an issue with my PC. Also, if you connect it to the internet for any reason, it FORCES you to sign up for or sign into a Google account. What if you don’t want to? Well too bad, you get greeted with a “sign up” prompt every time you turn on your TV. This is probably a Google thing more than a Hisense thing, but still, it’s super frustrating. And lastly, unless you’re using a Hisense sound bar, it will not show you the volume levels. With all that said, I do love this TV overall. I use a Google TV Streamer so I often opt out of Google TVs OS built into TVs. But for this situation I went ahead and signed into my Google account and I gotta say, it’s not as smooth as I’d like it to be. The Google Streamer is snappier. If you don’t have anything, then it’ll be fine, but if you do, I’d recommend that instead. My final thoughts, get the TV and hope for a software update that will fix the bugs because the screen is worth it! (Update - After the firmware update most of my problems were addressed)

The quality of the picture of this TV is unlike any other TV I've had. The picture is very clean, crisp, and literally picture perfect. The way the lighting is displays some different shades of the same color of the same item based on the lighting around the object on the TV.

I got this TV to replace an older 85" TV that was starting to have backlight issues. Let me correct myself, the older TV has been having issues for almost a year not just starting, and I had no idea what I was missing until I got this Hisense 75" TV. I was all set on getting another brand until I saw this on display at Best Buy. The colors are unbelievably bright, crisp, and vibrant. We sit back about 12 ft from the TV and I was concerned that this TV would not be big enough for the content that we watch. I was so very wrong! Sitting back like we do, we watch movies in the dark, sports in daylight, and news and tv shows throughout different times during the day. Dark room, brightly lit room, room with bright daylight, and early morning dawn lit room and this TV performs incredibly in every lighting condition we throw at it. The RGB out put of the TV is so crisp and bright you don't even need a light on when its dark. The TV outputs so much light it feels like the lights are already on even after turning down the brightness levels a quarter from factory setting. The picture is clear and sharp even after turning the AI and noise controls off. The picture had zero stuttering or pixelation issues on everything we viewed on the TV including movies, pictures, shows, and video games. We even casted our iPad and Windows laptop to the TV to see how it handled that stuff and it was amazing. I hooked up my flight simulator to the TV and it is a graphic intensive program, but this TV with 165hz refresh rate, didn't even bat an eye keeping up with the image refreshing of the flight scenes. The sound is quite decent for a wall mounted TV not using a soundbar or surround system. It has a built in subwoofer that actually sounds pretty good. It has rich bass and really thumps when you have sound intensive content coming through. I put on an action movie with airplane engine noises and flight sequences of air to air battles and the sound made me feel like I was on set of the movie sitting in those cockpits. No speaker rattle or cutout even on a higher volume. several sound and video settings to play around with and sample so you should be able to find a setting that you will love like I did. My only problem and I can't say its even a TV problem but a software problem, so not going to take a star off for that but the TV is a Google TV which is fine, however, in order to hook up to the internet to do updates you have to sign in to Google to do any of this. When you pay as much as we do for these products, we should be able to run it how we choose and not be forced to sign in to a service. Yes, you can make it a dumb TV but as soon as you hook up ethernet or wifi, it will make you sign into Google. Not a fan of this forced tracking and forced system access by Google. For the pricepoint, this TV is fantastic. So many good things about it, even if it forces you to use Google. Would recommend but fair warning...once you watch this TV, real life colors will be a little disappointing!

Colors and brightness are top tier, sound from the tv is well beyond expectations. Would recommend!!

The picture for 4k is amazing. Video games seem to be really good. Football, not so much. Its still hard to see the ball in the air, I'm still waiting to see a live game and determine if that will be better or not. Not disappointed, just let down.

I remember way back to my first Hisense TV. It did the basics at a very good price. But they have come such a long way since then. Easily topping the lists of the best picture per dollar out there. My other smaller TV is a 55” Sony OLED. So I am use to a one of the best pictures out there. Does the Hisense even come close. The quick answer is YES. Too close!! This is my first RGB Mini LED TV. I had seen a lot of reviews of the same type and most said they are as close to OLED quality as you can get with an LCD screen. Well now I see why. The colors, black levels, contrast, and clarity are an awesome thing to look at. And since its a native 180Hz screen motion is crisp and clear with none of the normal motion artifacts you get with for example a 60Hz screen. I was also super impressed at the lack of blooming on bright objects on a black background. For example I like to watch TV with subtitles. And with most TVs it gets distracting because of the halo around the white letters on dark backgrounds. There is almost none of that here. The sound was also very impressive. It of course wont replace a good soundbar or surround system, but for most folks the sound will be good enough. Plenty of punch to things like explosions, etc. But also with great clarity for voices and other mids and highs. And I am very happy that it comes with Google TV as its smart system. My Sony also has this so there was no learning curve at all. And out of all the smart platforms out there I think Google TV does it best. Everything is easy to navigate, well laid out, and isnt over intrusive with ads or suggestions. And you can turn a lot of things off to make it an even more plain set up if you prefer to keep things simple. I am also a pretty avid gamer, and WOW is gaming awesome of this beast of a TV. Excellent performance with no screen tearing or any other issues. It takes immersion to another level when you have a screen this big that performs the way it does! I also really like the remote. Its backlit which is a must for my TV remotes. I love the metallic look. And its very simplistic with only what you need on it. Your most used apps and shortcuts without overdoing it. It can also be controlled with your voice which I have become accustomed to do. And another feature that is even better then my Sony OLED is that it has 4 full HDMI 2.1 ports, unlike my Sony which has 2 2.1 ports, and the other 2 2.0. This is a must for people that have several consoles and a PC to connect. No more having to swap out ports or requiring an additional HDMI switch box. So like I said in the title, Hisense has come a very long way. And with the UR8 they hit a homerun. It does everything I want is a TV and then some. Excellent features at a great price for a 75” RGB Mini LED TV. Couldnt recommend it more!!

I have had several Hisense TVs over the years and each one has been better and better. This is no exception. Just be sure and measure your vehicle if you are driving this home yourself, cus this thing is big! Mounting the TV was a little bit of a challenge, as the TV alone is over 60 pounds, and I think for most people a second person will be necessary to ensure safety of the device and all others concerned. Even with the included stand, a second person will ensure a gentle landing in the place of your choice. Getting setup overall was super easy. Scan the QR code and transfer all your google settings directly. My only complaint is that finding the google play store to add the one streaming app that didn't transfer was a bit of effort but once found all was complete and the device was ready to go! The settings are quite intuitive and even allows for timing adjustments for gaming. I am not an expert gamer, but I must say hooking up to my gaming console gave impressive and immersive results. Truly enjoyable. I use over the air ancient technology to get local weather and news. The TV tuner worked great and perhaps even better than my previous Hisense model. The biggest surprise was the sound. I have a nice soundbar in use for this location and quite frankly I think it can be retired. The sound for music, movies and gaming is really good. I have had a few TVs in my life and this is clearly the best "out of the box" sound I have ever had. For the money this is an excellent value!

I'm blown away by this tv. I upgraded from a smaller hisense i've had since 2018 and I can immediately tell a night and day difference with this new set. The biggest and most important difference is the picture quality. While my old tv was also 4k it doesnt even compete on the same field as this set. The blacks are absolutely black. The mini led picture completely removes that light bleed you typically see on blacks when a tv is on. The colors are vibrant and the brightness is next level. Theres nothing better i could ask for picture wise on a tv. The sound also shocked me on this set. I'm used to the sound on TVs being a total afterthought. Thats not the case here. While it isn't top end sound bar quality the 2.1.2 bleww me away as far as tv speakers go. Having an integrated sub and atmos speakers on a TVv is a game changer. I immediately got rid of the sound bar and freed up the space on my mantle. The last major selling point of this TV is the interface. It has Google TV integrated out of the box. It is snappy and smooth and has all the apps you need. It integrates with Google home so you can see your cameras and control home devices right from the TV. The coolest software feature is it has Gemini on board. Just say ok google and you have gemini right there to do anything on the tv or control anything around your house. This tv has everything and more you could ask for. I can't think of any reason not to love this tv.

Returned the tv. To bright and over saturated colors that blurred. Fast moving things like a tennis ball or Someone running was blurry .

SUMMARY UP FRONT: This is one great looking television. Setup, install and operation were easy. The picture quality is amazing. The newish RGB mini-LED technology does not disappoint. I have not owned an OLED TV because all my rooms have windows and OLED is not optimal for viewing in daylight; however I have seen them, and this TV rivals OLED for deep blacks. The brightness is incredible - even in my well-lit family room with skylights. And that makes for wonderful contrast with no blooming. There are an enormous amount of settings and you can calibrate and tweak (which I did), but the TV looked fantastic out of the box - except for being initially too bright! The Google TV system really works for me and it is responsive and fast with plenty of apps. Over the air ATSC 3.0 Next Gen is great too. The remote is ok, and the sound is good, but it definitely is not a replacement for a good audio system. So why was I tempted to knock a star off? Mainly due to logistics and some eARC and minor audio output issues - described in the details below). You cannot simply download a PDF user's manual from the Hisense web site. The e-manual was a chore to use and you had to register the product to access it. That is really deficient for those who want to view the manual before buying a product. I contacted Hisense about it on a Saturday, and they were good and emailed me a PDF manual; however I had to wait until the next business day for it to arrive. The manual was just ok and did not describe a lot of functions, features and settings very well. But worse was the myriad and lengthy user agreements/notices that you had to agree to. I detested that. However, since the TV is so great, I could not in good conscious knock off a star for those things - given the compelling price point of this unit and the sale price I see as I write this on the Best Buy web site. But even if it was not on sale, I'd still highly recommend it! DETAILS: UNPACKING: • The TV was delivered to me with the "normal" box surrounded by plywood and fabric- like packing material. Very nice. And I will be able to re-use that material. ○ The plywood "case" was custom made with furring strips supporting it and held together with screws. ○ I'm unsure as to whether this is the norm if you have the TV shipped, but it was great for me. • Removing the TV from its thick cardboard box was simple. Just open the top, remove the top material that holds the remote, power cord and stands, then lift up the box. The TV stands upright well. • The base plate for the stand is very sturdy and heavy. • There is an unpacking guide, Quick Start guide, Remote with batteries, stand and stand brackets within the box. There are no cables whatsoever. INSTALLING / SETUP: • Setting up the TV was very easy - especially for something so large. I was basically able to put the stand and feet on myself. ○ I did require help to lift the unit into place within my entertainment center. • This TV is notable in that you can adjust the height at two different settings. This was a crucial feature for me. ○ I have an entertainment center with a "cavity" for a tv that is 40" high. The height at the shortest position is 39.3" and the TV fit perfectly in my cabinet. ○ There is also a taller setting if you have a soundbar so you can place it underneath the TV - I do not…I use a full A/V system connected to the TV via eARC. • I connected the TV to my network via an Ethernet cable - which I prefer - although did try WiFi as well. ○ Both connections were easily made and were stable. ○ This TV is only WiFi 6e, but WiFi 7 has been around now for a few years and I do wish the TV came with WiFi7. • I connected my A/V Receiver's eARC output to the TV's HDMI 3/eARC input using a Premium High Speet HDMI cable and got signals right away from my cable STB. • I also connected a very old and not great Radio Shack passive antenna because I wanted try out the NEXTGEN TV (ATSC 3.0) functionality. ○ I scanned for channels and the TV found 33 digital over the air channels as well as 7 NEXTGEN Channels. § I'm confident I could obtain many more if I get a better antenna and better place it. ○ Those display on the NextGen channels stated Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. ○ The OTA channel guide provided by the local broadcasters was ok. ○ Having said - the coax connection on the back of the TV was extremely tight. I had to use a very basic coax cable with a smaller diameter connection. ○ I also connected a 64 GB Flash Drive to the TV's USB 3.0 port and experimented with the internal Personal Video Recorder feature and it worked great to record OTA channels. ○ This may be a "niche" feature for most so I will simply say the picture looked great. ○ I am tempted to use this even though my setup currently uses a cable set top box. It certainly would make it more palatable to do away with cable TV! • I also set up the Google Assistant and it responded well. • The remote is ok. Not all the keys are back lit. ○ There are some commands that could be added (I was able to set up some additional commands for my programable remote control - which I will continue to use). ○ There is a "star" key that you can map (I mapped it to HDMI 3 since that is my main input). PICTURE: • One word - STUNNING! The RGB mini-LED technology is absolutely better than my previous 4K LED display that had great reviews when introduced about 6 years ago. • Dolby Vision was beautiful. The set also has all of the other standard formats such as HDR 10+ and HLG. • I watched very good source material via my 4K UHD HDR Blue-Ray player the blacks were inky and the brightness was incredible - even in my room that has skylights so is very bright during the daytime • I did not notice any blooming or artifacts when a dark scene suddenly turned bright. • There are a plethora of inputs and settings, and pre-sets. You can play until your heart is content and I did. ○ However, the "out-of-the-box" setting was very good - although I had to switch from "Store Mode" and still had to reduce the brightness for SDR material. ○ There are numerous settings and sub-settings for brightness, color, clarity and "Calibration" menu and "Calman" SOUND: • Hisense promotes the 50W 2.1.2 sound in this unit in a big way and it is good - much better than my older 65" TV. • However, as noted above, my placement is in an entertainment center and the TV fits almost perfectly in my cavity with little spacing around the frame. ○ That is great for aesthetics and because I can fit this 75" unit in my entertainment center; however, my feeling is that the sound isn't as good as it could be because of my set-up. ○ Having said, I did listen to the TV while it was outside the cabinet. I felt the sound was good, but not groundbreaking. ○ The backward firing subwoofer does add a bit more bass (but again - I think it is a bit impacted by my setup, and it may be too if you mount it on a wall). ○ I am a bit of an audiophile and for critical listening and movie watching, I would want an external sound system. ○ And Dolby Atmos? Maybe, but if you expect good Dolby Atmos - connect a sound system! ISSUES USING AN EXTERNAL AUDIO/VIDEO RECEIVER • I am not sure if the TV will pass Dolby Atmos signals ○ Page 36 of the manual only gives options for PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, And Dolby Digital MAT. § My test was Peacock. I could pass an audio stream via the Xfinity TV Set Top Box to my receiver and decoded Dolby Atmos perfectly. § I could not pass any Atmos audio signal using the TV's Peacock app to my receiver. I tried many different configurations but to no avail. □ However, I am aware that the Peacock app on TVs may not be optimal so I am unsure whether to blame the TV or Peacock. □ At present, Peacock is my only subscription service that provides Atmos, so this isn't a full test. ○ Note that for those tests I had CEC/HDMI control turned on for both my TV and AVR. That segues me to: • Often I do not wish to power on the receiver when watching certain programs such as news. The Hisense does not handle that well. ○ When powering the TV, sound does not come from the TV. § After startup, I need to go into the menu and choose audio out ->TV speaker to obtain sound from the TV speakers. § This is cumbersome. There is also no direct command for this so I cannot map a universal remote to do this. § It is possible this is an Android/Google TV issue. However, I did not have this issue with my previous Android TV. • Also when I go to stream an app from the TV sound to the receiver, I initially do not obtain sound. ○ To overcome this, I need to go to Settings > Sound>eARC and toggle the eARC from Auto to Off and then back to Auto again. § Again, this is cumbersome and could be an Android TV or a HDMI CEC issue. Again, I did not have this issue with my previous Android TV. • All the problems may not be an issue for you if you simply watch the TV stand-alone, or if you use a soundbar or AVR that gets powered up at startup. • One last issue I had - I was able to cast both a PC and my Android phone easily to the TV. However, I could not get the Multi-view feature to work. ○ Again - I would have liked to see more in the manual about this. I will have to play with it some more. BOTTOM LINE: Even with the user manual issue, lengthy agreements and audio output output issues, I still have to give this television 5 stars. The picture is that good and the TV can be had for a compelling price. Highly recommended.
