About this product

Hobart was surely one of the most important traditional banjo pickers ever recorded, a player whose music strongly influenced (and inspired) many revival banjoists. He was also a straight-ahead singer of old-time songs and ballads, sometimes with guitar accompaniment. This album was recorded at WFMT in Chicago while Hobart was performing at a festival in that city, one of his few excursions out of his native Blue Ridge Mountains. For anyone interested in traditional American 5-string banjo styles, this is an essential recording. Album Tracks 1. Soldier's Joy 2. Ped and Awl 3. The Great Titanic 4. Black Annie 5. Sally Ann 6. Chinquapin Pie 7. Last Chance 8. John Greer's Tune 9. Short Life in Trouble 10. The Devil and the Farmer's Wife 11. Soldier's Joy 12. Sitting on Top of the World 13. Stormy Rose the Ocean 14. Bonaparte's Retreat 15. Cuckoo Bird 16. Columbus Stockade Blues 17. Cindy 18. The Girl I Left Behind Me 19. John Hardy 20. Meet Me in Rose Time, Rosie 21. Shady Grove 22. Sourwood Mountain 23. K.C. Blues 24. Uncloudy Day
