This is a brand new 1/72 scale diecast model of the Fairchild Republic A-10A Thunderbolt II Attack Aircraft "Flying Tigers, 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing, King Fahd Airport" (1991) from the United States Air Force "Air Power Series" by Hobby Master. The model comes in its original unopened box and features a detailed exterior with true-to-scale detailing, including an opening canopy, optional-position landing gear, missile accessories, and a display stand. Constructed from diecast metal and plastic, it provides durability and a heavy, realistic feel, with accurate panel lines, antennas, access panels, and surface details for an authentic representation of the real aircraft. The A-10A Thunderbolt II, nicknamed the "Warthog," has long been the backbone of close air support for U.S. forces, and aircraft 80-0186 played a significant role in the Gulf War under the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing (TFW). Stationed at King Fahd International Airport in Saudi Arabia in February 1991, this A-10A was at the forefront of Operation Desert Storm. Known for its durability and devastating firepower, the Warthog excelled in destroying enemy tanks, artillery, and fortified positions during the conflict. Its GAU-8 Avenger rotary cannon and ability to loiter for extended periods made it indispensable in providing precise support to ground troops. During the Gulf War, 80-0186 conducted numerous combat sorties, often targeting Iraqi armor and supply convoys. Operating from forward bases like King Fahd, the A-10A proved its mettle by delivering critical support in battles such as the liberation of Kuwait City. Its robust design allowed it to return to base even after sustaining significant damage, earning the A-10 the reputation of being one of the most survivable aircraft in modern warfare. By August 2022, the A-10A Thunderbolt II, including aircraft like 80-0186, continued to serve in various capacities, including training exercises and readiness operations. Though newer platforms had entered service, the A-10 remained a vital tool for scenarios requiring close air support and precision strikes. Its legacy as a tank-buster and protector of ground forces cemented its place as one of the most iconic aircraft in U.S. Air Force history. This 1:72 scale model captures the rugged design and battlefield-proven capabilities of the Warthog. With detailed markings from its 23rd TFW deployment during Operation Desert Storm, this replica is a fitting tribute to an aircraft that changed the face of modern close air support, making it a perfect addition to any military aviation collection. The model measures approximately 8.75 inches in length with a wingspan of 9.75 inches.
