About This Item

This is a brand new 1/48 scale diecast model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 Fighter Aircraft "White 2," flown by Ján Režňák of 13.(Slow.)/JG 52 in Krasnodar, USSR, 1943, from the German Luftwaffe "Air Power Series" by Hobby Master. The model comes in its original unopened box and features a detailed exterior with true-to-scale detailing, including an opening canopy, detachable landing gear, and a display stand. Constructed from diecast metal and plastic, it offers durability and a heavy, realistic feel, with accurate panel lines, antennas, access panels, and surface details for an authentic representation of the real aircraft. The Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 “White 2” was flown by Slovak pilot Ján Režňák, one of the most successful aces of the Slovak Air Force during World War II. By 1943, Slovakia, as a German ally, had committed fighter units to the Eastern Front, where their pilots were attached to Luftwaffe formations such as Jagdgeschwader 52 (JG 52). Režňák, operating with 13.(Slow.)/JG 52, was tasked with air defense and escort missions over the Kuban region near Krasnodar, an area of fierce combat during the German attempt to hold their bridgeheads in the Caucasus. Flying the Bf 109E-3, a fighter that by 1943 was considered outdated compared to the newer Friedrich (F) and Gustav (G) variants, Režňák still achieved remarkable results through skill and aggressive tactics. Despite its age, the Emil remained a reliable machine, capable of engaging Soviet Yakovlevs, Lavochkins, and Ilyushin ground-attack aircraft at lower altitudes. It was in this environment that Režňák added to his impressive tally, becoming Slovakia’s top-scoring ace with over 30 confirmed victories. The battles over Krasnodar in early 1943 were part of the wider German struggle to maintain control of the Kuban bridgehead following the disastrous retreat from Stalingrad. Air operations were intense, with Soviet air power growing in strength and experience. Pilots like Režňák were constantly tested against numerically superior opponents, and the attritional air war highlighted both the bravery of Axis pilots and the shifting momentum in favor of the Soviets. Ultimately, while individual successes like those of Režňák temporarily bolstered morale, the campaign marked another stage in the steady decline of German and Axis fortunes on the Eastern Front. This 1:48 scale model captures the aircraft’s distinctive markings during its service with 13.(Slow.)/JG 52 over Krasnodar in 1943. With finely detailed panel lines, authentic camouflage, and historically accurate Slovak insignia, it brings to life the story of Slovakia’s top ace and his role in one of the fiercest air campaigns of the Eastern Front. The model measures approximately 7.5 inches in length with a wingspan of 8.25 inches and is a must-have for aviation enthusiasts and collectors, representing both the legendary Bf 109 and the dramatic history of its pilots.
