Memorias is clair-obscur's birthday present for Astor Piazzolla, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2021. This album provides the listener with comprehensive insights into Piazzolla's musical environment. A novel, unexpected musical context allows us to hear Piazzolla's music in a different way, with a fresh approach. It is obvious why the four musicians from Berlin are called Inchclair-obscurInch. Clair-obscur, a painting technique from the Renaissance, in which opposing light and dark tones are used to symbolize heavenly and earthly elements, is the visual equivalent of the sounds the quartet draw from their instruments on the one hand, warm, intense and clear, and on the other harsh, aggressive and robust. Born in Kharkov, USSR, Alexander Meshibovsky has had a substantial performing career. This is an album of live performances of great works. ALEXANDER MESHIBOVSKY has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the Hamburg Philharmonic, the RIAS Symphony of Berlin, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the North German Radio Orchestra in Hanover, the Bavarian State Radio Orchestra in Munich, the Bamberg Symphony and the European Union Youth Symphony. He has been featured on programs with prominent conductors such as Christoph von Dohnanyi, Ricardo Chailly, Edo de Waart, Klaus Tennstedt, Thomas Sanderling, and Vladimir Ashkenazy. Mr. Meshibovsky has served for many years as Professor of Violin at East Tennessee State University and the University of West Virginia, and is currently on the faculty of the Music Department at Lehman College, Columbia University Teachers College, and Long Island University.
