About this product

Homilius's choral preludes are rooted in the contrapuntal tradition propounded by his teacher Bach; not, however, without characteristics belonging to the more affective aesthetic movement of Empfindsame Stil for which Bach's son CPE is now best known. Thus there are some bold modulations which Father Bach would never have imagined or countenanced, such as the oscillation between C minor and C sharp minor in Ach Herr, mich armen Sünder, or the (then still) unusual B flat minor key of Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten. This appears to be the first recording to include all the great organ chorales so far authenticated as the work of Homilius - many of them remain unpublished. It is made by a Venetian keyboard musician specializing in early music, on a modern (2007) instrument tuned to Werckmeister III - as close as is practicable to the tuning that Homilius would have known. Album Tracks 1. Nun Komm, Der Heiden Heiland, Howv VIII.38 2. Ich Ruf Zu Dir, Herr Jesu Christ, Howv VIII.37 - Mesto 3. Ach Bleib Mit Deiner Gnade, Howv VIII.34 - Col Affetto Trio À 2. Yulianna Avdeeva - Shostakovich: Preludes & Fugues, Op. 87 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The internationally renowned pianist Yulianna Avdeeva presents Shostakovich's 24 Preludes and Fugues, Op. 87, one of the most important works in the piano repertoire. This monumental cycle harks back to Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier and is considered one of the most demanding works for piano ever written. Avdeeva joins an elite group of pianists who have undertaken the challenge of performing the complete opus, which is rarely heard in it's entirety. To complement this iconic work, Avdeeva also presents the completion of an alternative Prelude and Fugue in C-Sharp Minor, discovered by leading Shostakovich expert Olga Digonskaya and completed by composer and Shostakovich biographer Krzysztof Meyer. Shostakovich sketched an initial prelude in C-Sharp Minor in 1950, but then decided to compose a new prelude-fugue pair in this key, which eventually found it's way into Opus 87. The sketch of the original prelude was found in the Shostakovich archive in Moscow in 2005; Krzysztof Meyer completed the fragment in 2019 and added his own fugue Inchin the style of ShostakovichInch. This discovery adds a new and exciting dimension to the cycle and will be an important part of the story behind the album. Album Tracks 1. 24 Preludes & Fugues Op. 87~Book 1. No. 1, in C Major Prelude 17. 24 Preludes & Fugues Op. 87~Book 1. No. 9, in E Major Prelude 4. 24 Preludes & Fugues Op. 87~Book 2. No. 16, in B-Flat Minor Fugue

Coro Euridice - Scattolin: 5 Meditazioni sacre - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Pier Paolo Scattolin's eclectic compositional style, which developed in parallel with his assiduous activity as a choir conductor, reaches an important stage in this discographic production with a sacred and spiritual character, in contrast to his last CD Suoni e rime sparse published in 2021 and centred on profane poetic inspiration. Indeed, it is all sacred themes (both historical and original) that form the backbone of these 5 meditations, which see the executive use of a great variety of instruments and ensembles, with the inclusion of timbral peculiarities provided by harmonic singing and Tibetan bells. The Euridice Choir of Bologna in it's various ensembles is once again the protagonist of the vocal parts, flanked by the Circe ensemble and exceptional soloists to whom the author dedicates first performances, both recordings and concerts.
