A: Yes -- you should be able to connect a garden hose although the manufacturer does not recommend it (although other reviewers have said they do it without a problem).
Q: Does this model have a frost control and does it shut off when full?
A: Yes, this model has a frost control but it does not have an indicator which tells you when the machine is in frost mode. The machine shuts off when full but make sure you follow manufacturer's instructions on setup or else it is possible to experience overflow leaks before shutoff.
