Q: Do I need to purchase Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint for this computer?
A: Yes. Unless you have specifically bought a computer where you have options to add that in it will not have a working Microsoft Office installed on it. The files for Office are pre-installed on most all computers but then you have to purchase and activate it. I would suggest the regular Microsoft Home and Student version over Office 365. All Office 365 versions are one year subscriptions. The regular $125 Home and Student versions are perpetual licenses that stay with the computer and can be moved to another computer if needed.
Q: does this laptop have windows 11. what is S mode
A: Windows 11 Home S Mode is a "protected" Windows 11 that only allows you to download apps or programs from the Microsoft Store and use the Microsoft Edge browser. This keeps you "protected" from viruses and malware but limits the apps or programs you may want to use, such as the Google Chrome browser. It is easy to switch out of S Mode (google "switching out of Windows S Mode" and follow the easy instructions), but you cannot switch back into S Mode once you switch out (you probably won't want to switch back anyway). Q: Is the casing made of plastic or metal? (My last HP plastic cracked a lot.)
A: Plastic. I have had a very similar HP model with the plastic casing for about a year and a half and have had no cracking.

A: Look at the specs and it has Windows 11 Home. You do not need Pro unless you are logging into a corporate domain. The only difference between Home and Pro versions are that Pro has more advanced networking features. If you are using it at home for basic stuff and not logging into formal corporate networks you don't need Pro. Home is fine.
