Q: is this a hard case or soft
A: Soft
A: just got sleeve a few weeks ago, it is 10 x 14 inside to inside. IF you are going to jam it or push it to its max. it might go 1/4" more in each direction. 0.8inchess is also pushing it. I think it will defeat the purpose if you are looking for the sleeve to cushion the laptop. It will be comparable to forcing your hand into a leather glove which is a size too small - it might go in but it wont be a happy fit.
