Q: Do I have to use the instant ink monthly plan? I will not be using the printer that much. And probably won't need ink more than once or twice a year.

A: Thank you for reaching out. You can choose if you wish to use the HP Instant Ink plans or not. This printer is eligible for the HP Instant Ink print free for life plan which allows you to print up to 15 pages a month at no cost. If the printer needs ink at any time it will automatically come to your address, you never pay for the ink, shipping or anything. Your plan gives you access to an unlimited supply of HP's Ink as you need it. If you print over 15 pages every 10 pages is just $1. Even if you find you print more, the 50 page $2.99 plan works out to $36 which is still more affordable than buying ink cartridges, about even if you only buy the ink once a year. You can enroll, cancel or change plans at any time. So using Instant Ink is completely optional and by not choosing to use it initially you are not loosing out on the ability to use it later.

Q: Can you print in black ink if the color cartridge is out of ink without replacing the color cartridge? Another brand printer that I have will not print if one of the color cartridges is out of ink - you must replace the color cartridge first - not good!

A: Yes, you simply remove the cartridge which is empty and the printer will switch to single cartridge mode and continue printing.

Q: Does it do 2 sided printing by itself or do you have to flip the paper ? I think they call it duplex printing.

Q: Will the Black ink work without color cartridges? I only use Black. Color never gets used and dries up. Then the Black won't work either. Tired of buying color ink that I don't use. Please let me know. Quite interested in this model.

A: Ours will print if the color cartridge is empty. You can also choose to print black only in print color options.

Q: Can you put a stack of paper and print large amounts of 10-15 pages at one time?

A: Theoretically yes. Actually, a pain in the rear. Printing picks up multiple pages often and jams easily. Sheet feeder for copying or scanning is the same story. Just make sure you check everything to make sure you have what you need. You can’t assume it will be accurate or complete. My 4650 was quite a workhorse. This unit is not.

Q: Where is the paper tray and does it fax? Also is it very easy to install?

A: The paper tray is in the front, and runs along the bottom of the printer. It is capable of faxing, yes, through a proper landline, and it's super easy to install and set up!! We recommend using the HP Smart App for the simplest installation experience.

Q: Do you have to use the ink auto delivery. I don't think I will need ink that often?

A: No! I bypassed all that ink subscription nonsense.

Q: Is this able to perform 2 sided scanning?

A: Thank you for your question. In order to 2 sided scan you would need to manually flip the pages.
