The Runaways - Waitin for the Night - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Although by this time The Runaways had lost both Cherie Currie and Jackie Fox, it was by no means fatal as Joan Jett took over the lead vocals. With snarling vocals from Joan and in your face rock guitar from Lita Ford, this was a fantastic album from The Runaways. Tracks like the jaded 'Little Sister' and the catchy 'Wait for Me' proved there was plenty of life in the girls yet!! Critically acclaimed but never receiving their due, The Runaways were formed in Hollywood in 1975, with the help of music svengali / producer Kim Fowley, becoming the first all female rock and roll band to actually make an impression on the record buying public and musicians alike - although more so now than then! Respected in their day by bands such as Blondie and the Ramones, and now cited as a major influence by bands such as Courtney Love, Bikini Kill, L7, the Donnas and Babes in Toyland The Runaways time has finally come!

I Virtuosi Italiani Andreae - Overtures - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Rossini's opera overtures discharge a function of decisive importance - that of captivating listeners even before the actual opera action begins. Therefore they are the instrumental highlight of every opera and in their time quickly made their way into the concert halls. In them there are numerous aha-effects such as the unusual horn solo in the first section of the overture of the comic opera Il turco in Italia. The faster part reveals further hallmarks of Rossini's style catchy short motifs, loud-quiet contrasts, and question-answer games between the instruments (here, for example, between the woodwind group and the solo trumpet). In the end the concluding crescendo quite literally lifts the listeners out of their seats. And all of this occurs within a quite simple formal structure - but one that functions as a guiding idea. Whether The Barber of Seville, La scala di Seta, or Il signor Bruschino - all of these famous, sparkling opera overtures are dashingly and rousingly performed by I Virtuosi Italiani. A that you will never forget!

Italico Splendore - Sonatas - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The city of Modena, under the rule of the Este family, was the capital of the Dukedom of Modena e Reggio. Thanks to Duke Francesco ii's fondness for the violin, music became an essential element in the most important events at the Este court, such as receptions, weddings and official visits of foreign sovereigns. These were the occasions in which the Duke displayed all his magnificence. Modena stands out for the abundance of it's collection of musical documents in the Biblioteca Estense the library is a real mine, largely unexplored so far. This consideration gave rise to the idea of making this beautiful, extraordinarily modern music available to those who are InchpursuingInch culture and art. So our goal is to promote a rediscovery of the enormous heritage preserved in the Biblioteca Estense, by carrying out a meticulous study of the sources of the works of the composers who were active at the Este Court in Modena, transcribing them into modern notation and critical editions, and producing monographic recordings of them. The first step consisted in the study and recording of the instrumental works of Giovanni Battista Vitali. In this third of 6 albums dedicated to his music preserved at the Estense Library of Modena, the baroque group Italico Splendore performs the Sonatas op. 5. The title of each of the sonatas is the surname of a well-known aristocratic family of the area of Modena this was Vitali's explicit homage to the circles in which he was working. Each sonata is different in it's affect and style the musical material is complex and diversified, almost as if it were actually personalized this seems to suggest that there is a deliberate correspondence between the individual pieces and the people to whom they were dedicated.
