Vinyl LP pressing. Demon Records are delighted to welcome back the one of the richest and most diverse catalogues in the British rock cannon from the iconic, much-missed Ian Dury. Kicking off what promises to be an exciting and comprehensive reappraisal of the artist's repertoire come the first three of Ian's gold-plated studio albums, available again on vinyl - the debut 'New Boots And Panties!!' (1977), 'Laughter' (1980) and, sandwiched between them, 1979's classic 'Do It Yourself'. Coming off the back of the huge success of 'New Boots And Panties!!' and the standalone singles chart smashes 'What A Waste' (UK No. 9) and 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick' (No. 1), 'Do It Yourself' was the first Ian Dury album to be co-credited to the band The Blockheads, whose Chas Jankel provided the musical setting for Dury's lyrics. Expectations were high and 'Do It Yourself' did not disappoint, creatively or commercially - a UK No. 2 album (only the might of a new ABBA album prevented it from reaching No. 1) it comfortably became the second Ian Dury album to be certified platinum. As was his custom at the time, Dury insisted that no singles be lifted from 'Do It Yourself' - he chose instead to offer them ten brand new songs. That didn't, however, prevent 'Do It Yourself's many highlights - 'Sink My Boats', 'Inbetweenies', 'Dance Of The Screamers', etc., - from coming to be regarded as classics, and the album was praised for it's innovative InchwallpaperInch artwork, insightful lyrics and immaculate musicianship.

Vinyl LP pressing. Do It Yourself is a 1979 album by Ian Dury & the Blockheads. It was the first album to be credited to Ian Dury & the Blockheads rather than Ian Dury alone, although Dury had used the full band name for the InchWhat a WasteInch 7Inch single of 1978. The album was released in the wake of the chart-topping hit single InchHit Me with Your Rhythm StickInch, and reached number two in the charts, behind ABBA's Voulez-Vous. Do It Yourself sold around 200,000 copies, and was Dury's second Platinum album (after it's predecessor New Boots and Panties!!).

Arguably the finest finger style acoustic guitarist on the planet, Martin Simpson returns to Topic Records after a break of almost 15 years. Surprisingly, this is his first recording of exclusively English material - predominately traditional, completely English and totally outstanding. Martin Simpson's guitar and vocals have never sounded better, and classic traditional material is delivered in subtle and innovative ways.
Demon Records as part of a wider and ongoing catalogue initiative are pleased to be making 'Lord Upminster' the second solo album from the iconic, much-missed Ian Dury available once more on classic black vinyl, long out of print since 1990 other than within 'The Vinyl Collection' Box Set released in 2014. Released in 1981, the album followed his final album on Stiff 'Laughter' (with The Blockheads) and was Ian's first album with Polydor Records. At a suggestion of Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, Ian Dury flew to the Bahamas to record 'Lord Upminster at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, newly reunited with his long-time collaborator Chaz Jankel. There they were to work with reggae rhythm duo Sly Dunbar (drums) and Robbie Shakespeare (bass guitar) and keyboardist Tyrone Downie, while backing vocals came from amongst others no less than Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club fame, along with her sister Laura Weymouth. The album covers a diverse range of musical styles reflecting Dury's influences and background in pub rock, early rock and roll and British music hall whilst also taking in funk and post disco rhythms and is notable for featuring a Sly Dunbar composition in 'Girls (Watching)'. There was also not least the single which was deemed controversial enough to be banned from the airwaves 'Spasticus (Autisticus)' which was Ian's protest against the International Year of Disabled Persons, which he considered to be patronising and insensitive. Years later the now critically lauded song was broadcast live worldwide during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Paralympics, performed by Orbital and members of the Graeae Theatre Company.
