About this product
The Polonaise in C-sharp minor, Op. 26 No. 1 and the Polonaise in E-flat minor, Op. 26 No. 2 were composed by Frédéric Chopin in 1836. Both of them were dedicated to Josef Dessauer. Both Polonaises require considerable technique and stamina to be performed well. The Polonaise opens with a fiery Allegro appasionato in C-sharp minor, the primary theme preceded by descending octaves. The section climaxes with a series of virtuosic arpeggio figures which give way to a tender melody. This is then followed by a repetition of the theme. After this opening section there is a new theme introduced in the enharmonic D-flat major. This new theme is then developed and followed by a new left hand melody, which increases the tension until a repeat of the meno mosso. This polonaise is very diverse in textures, dynamics, and moods, and sometimes is considered one of the best polonaises by Chopin. Album Tracks 1. Polonaise in C#, Op.26, No.1 2. Polonaise in E Flat, Op.26, No.2 3. Polonaise in a, Op.40, No.1, 'Military' 4. Polonaise in C, Op.40, No.2 5. Polonaise in F#, Op.44 6. Polonaise in a Flat, Op.53, 'Heroic' 7. Polonaise in a Flat, Op.61, 'Polonaise-Fant'

Soprano Sumi Jo adds to an already impressive discography for Erato with this exciting set of arias by the great French Romantic composers, including the meltingly sensuous InchDepuis le jourInch from Charpentier's Louise and the rarely heard InchLa valse d'EdwigeInch from Offenbach's Robinson Crusoe. The beautifully selected repertoire, which takes in the masterworks of Thomas, Bizet, Gounod, Meyerbeer and Massenet as well, calls to mind the long reign of the great French coloratura Lily Pons. The second polonaise's main theme, a contrast to the majestic and joyful one in the first, features an even rhythm of semiquaver chords in the right hand starting with C minor, and a mournful melody played in octaves by the left, with occasional lines played by the right hand. It is interspersed with a more serene theme, before switching to the trio section in A? major, which incorporates typical polonaise rhythms. The main theme is then repeated, with an added dramatic melody in the right hand. Album Tracks 1. Polonaise in D, Op.71, No.1 2. Polonaise in B Flat, Op.71, No.2 3. Polonaise in F, Op.71, No.3 4. This mazurka uses Polish folk rhythms and modes, and has a metronome mark of 132, making it one of the slower Chopin mazurkas. The Mazurka starts with a piano section, in which the central theme is stated, which revolves around oscillating triplets and heavy accents on the third beat of each bar. A second theme is then stated fortissimo, in a passage full of sforzando's and wedge accents. The original theme is then stated forte, but quickly decrescendos. These two passages end with repeats.
