Idles - Brutalism [COMPACT DISCS] Explicit date 03/27/2018

Idles return with their 2021 album Crawler - an album of reflection and healing amid a worldwide pandemic that stretched the planet's collective mental and physical health to the breaking point. Frontman Joe Talbot says, InchWe want people who've gone through trauma, heartbreak, and loss to feel like they're not alone, and also how it is possible to reclaim joy from those experiences.Inch Idles albums have always been anchored by these overarching themes, but the ability of the band to juxtapose beauty and rage with humor and drama has never felt more satisfying than on InchCrawler.Inch These stories are vividly brought to life through Idles' most soul-stirring music to date, recorded with co-producer Kenny Beats (Vince Staples, Freddie Gibbs). There are, of course, numerous moments that will inspire absolute mayhem in a packed concert venue, but there are also fresh textures and experiments that push IDLES into thrilling new territory. InchI don't really see us as a 'rock band' and working with Kenny [Beats] freed us of the idea of genre,Inch Talbot enthuses. InchOn this album, our dissolution of ego was helped by Kenny's humble nature and willingness to learn. He has boundless passion for making the best song possible. Not the best 'rock' song ' the best song possible.Inch He continues, InchIt was writing selfishly that helped make it possible. Reflecting. Telling my own story. Not trying to tell everyone else's story. Not trying to fix the world ' just talking about how I am fixing mine.Inch

SPACEHOG / CHINESE ALBUM The second (1998) from the British expat group Spacehog, The Chinese Album was originally conceived as the soundtrack for a movie called Mungo City; the movie never got made but thankfully the album retained the glam/power pop song by the same name (which, in a just universe, would have been a big hit)! This record never really got it's due, partly because the band took three years to follow up on the success of their debut album Resident Alien and it's hit InchIn the Meantime.Inch But The Chinese Album, in many ways, is a much more fully-realized work than it's predecessor; instead of merely playing at being a glam-rock band, Spacehog here crafts a fully-realized sound and aesthetic, with nods to such artists as Queen, Badfinger, The Kinks, and even R.E.M. (Michael Stipe makes an appearance on the mellow InchAlmond KissesInch). And the songwriting (e.g. InchLucy's ShoeInch) is consistently strong, making The Chinese Album one of the late '90s' great lost records. A pink vinyl pressing, nestled next to a 4-page, full-sized, full-color insert holding all the groovy graphics that accompanied the CD !
