An active and passive pickup selector with adjustable gain allows proper matching of magnetic and piezo pickups, while selectable PURE and JFET channels offer options for transparent audio or added warmth and midrange presence. The variable impedance Z-TONE circuit adjusts how the instrument interacts with the preamp, influencing response, tone, and feel, and can function as a buffer within pedalboard and signal chain setups. Additional features include balanced XLR output, 1/4-inch output jack and Thru connections, a ground-lift switch for reducing unwanted noise, and a -20 dB pad for managing higher output signals. The unit operates using a 9V battery or phantom power and is housed in a compact metal chassis suited for portable and repeated use.
