Ilya Grubert - Violin Concertos - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The operatic fantasy, as a vehicle for the display of virtuosity, came into it's own in the 19th century, notably with the 'demon violinist' Paganini, whose variations on Rossini' I Palpiti are included here.

Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst was in his day considered by no less an authority than Joseph Joachim to be the greatest living violinist, although he is now almost forgotten.
