San Francisco based millionaire industrialist Walter Williams (Brian Donlevy) has a younger wife, Irene (Helen Walker)), who is trying to kill him with the help of her lover, Jim Torrance (Tony Barrett). Walter and Irene are planning to drive to Lake Tahoe when Irene feigns an illness at the last minute. Irene has hatched a plan and asks Walter to give Torrance (who is pretending to be Irene's cousin) a ride to Denver, Colorado, which allows Torrance time to murder Walter en route. The murder goes awry when Williams survives a blow to the head administered by Torrance. Torrance flees the scene in William's car, but ends up in a head-on collision with a tanker truck, which instantly kills him. Experiencing amnesia from the blow to his head, Williams ends up in Idaho. He gets a job as a mechanic and falls in love with Marsha Peters (Ella Raines), widow of the station owner. There are still lots of unbelievable twists and turns in this fascinating plot, but you must watch this vintage classic to find out! A great suspenseful thriller if ever there was one! (105 minutes - 1949 - Black & White - 4 3)
