Back in the day my Mother & I went to a Sunday matinee, a film called "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" both of us were not expecting much, I knew Harrison Ford was in it from "Star Wars" fame other than that I knew very little about the premise. To our surprise we were about to take a nail biting on the edge of your seat adventure the likes we had never seen & after the film we both agreed it was a great action & adventure film with style & a flair that was rare for its time in the decade that saw the death of the drive-in theater & an industry slowly leaving American shores in search of cheaper locales. What we saw was the culmination of 50 years since sound came about with Hollywood understanding & formulating great film making.. par excellence! Director Steven Spielberg really took the reins and directed one of his best films and it didn't hurt having George Lucas in the background ensuring the storyline stayed tight this was the best of the series because this is a film that did not rely on its FX or it's elaborate set pieces it had a real script that was engaging, full of energy and moved with a purpose without the need to side-plot due to lack of material it stayed on track from beginning to end. The sequels that came after showed sparks yet fell short to the superior original.. I know, that's what they all say yet in this case it is the undisputed truth that ROTLA is far superior to what came after, sequel after sequel that became FX extravaganza's with substandard scripts & actors that relied more & more on set piece after set piece with plots that were not on par with the original. Video - Very good Blu-ray image but not great.. Blacks are not inky and at times look dark gray. Flesh tones look unnatural at times with an orange tinge yet in daylight everything looks natural. Not the type of video you will say is demo material but it looks darn nice and it appears the grain is intact with no filtering or digital manipulating yet you will see very little film damage it's a clean presentation. Sound - Very strong soundtrack in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 does this great film justice A very well rounded aural experience is to be had with nice rear field channel usage, when the action begins you will be immersed in sound. I stayed away from the film series set since I feel the others do not even come close to this highly original film, they were just riding off the fame of a truly great production.. a moment in American film making that will never come again!.... I highly recommend this Blu-ray! 5 star film...3 1/2 star Blu-ray

Harrison Ford First (Solo) Movie After Star Wars. Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas Did It Again One of My Favorite Movies of all Time.

Temple of Doom? Boring by comparison once you get past the opening scene. Last Crusade? Great performances but not as memorable as it was politicized all throughout which distracted from the raw story telling. Crystal Skull? What's that?! Har har. No, but seriously, it was a much needed update but it just went too "out there" if you know what I mean. Raiders has the action, the Romance and leaves out all of the more complex elements which are really just a distraction for this kind of stuff. It is raw and compelling story telling. Sadly though, the copy Best Buy sells has an irredeemable digital copy so I returned mine. If you want digital, look elsewhere.
