Q: Is the heating element inside the kettle exposed or covered?
A: The heating element is exposed. When you open the top, you can see the silver element.
Q: What material is this plastic kettle made of?
A: no metal parts in the kettle, it appears to be some kind of abs plastic. The heating element is inside the base which undocks from the kettle piece. It's essentially a two piece item, the base and the kettle. The dock is cleverly designed for easy seamless operation.
Q: What temperature does it heat water to?
A: Water boils for around 10 seconds before it turns down, so 212 degrees F, or 100 degrees C.
Q: Does the lid come off completely or does it just hinge?
A: The lid is just a hinge, but it doesn't retract all the way back. Not a very good design in my opinion. It should open more to allow filling with no spillage.
Q: Is there a hidden heating coil?
A: Yes the coil is exposed. And it does get calcification on it and can be difficult to clean. I just wipe it with a wet paper towel. I haven't had any issues of its performance due to this.
