A: The "Features" list for this item says it can provide up to 900ma per port at the standard USB 5 volts. In terms of using it as a charging station, it also says "offers consistent power OR CHARGE for your connected USB devices". So theoretically as long as you only use it to charge devices that can auto-charge while drawing no more than 900ma (0.9 amps) or less of 5 volt USB power per port, you would be within that that spec. That equates to around 4.5 Watts. But as with many tech questions, the answer is "it depends". Most reasonably modern phones, for example, want more current than that; particularly when fast charging which requires FAR more current. My years' old Galaxy S20+ specs say it can draw 15 watts when fast charging at standard USB 5V. More modern devices may use USB-C chargers that can also auto-change the charging voltage to provide up to 20V per port to achieve those far higher / faster charge rates. Even for user devices that also automatically provide a 5V "fallback" mode to charge slowly when they detect 5V and limited available wattage, I'd want a purpose-built phone / tablet charging station that can provide that type of amperage. I bought this hub purely to connect multiple small, low-current USB devices for usage only to a laptop such as an wired ethernet to USB connector, an SDCard reader, a USB hard drive holding an SSD, etc.
Q: What type of connection cable does this have?
A: USB five foot cord and power adapter.
Q: Will the Hub work as a stand alone usb adapter without the power cord?
A: No, you have to connect the Hub with the power cord in order to use it. Insignia Support Mary www.insigniaproducts.com/support
