Q: Does this shredder only use oil or can I also use the lubricant sheets
A: I have this shredder. It says "SHREDDER OIL ONLY" in the instructions and even printed directly on the shredder itself. So not wanting to risk damaging it, I eventually caved and reluctantly spent $8 on some "official" paper shredder oil (Fellowes brand - not sure if Insignia sells their own, but if they do I couldn't find it anywhere)... only to realize when I got home and took a closer look that it is LITERALLY canola oil. I don't know why they're pretending you need to buy special oil, but if you already have canola oil in your pantry just go ahead and use that. It does help to have it in a smaller squirt bottle with a narrow tip, though. You can even make your own lubricant sheets by drizzling canola oil in a big "X" on a sheet of copy paper and putting another sheet on top to make a sandwich (don't need to use a lot of oil/it shouldn't be dripping off the paper or anything.) Hope this helps (and that I don't upset any shredder oil company representatives that might see this!)
