Why subscribe to it when you can get it for free. Except for top shelf movies, I can find most of what I want for free with this converter box. I found it a little pricey, that’s why I gave this only four stars. Still, much cheaper than a years worth of cable. I then use the savings to get the best 4K movies.

When TV first went digital we needed 3 boxes. In all those years only one box has quit working. Still have the other two and decided to finally replace the one that quit a few years ago. This is a great box that does the job so we can watch network TV on older TVs. Well worth the price.

A-D converters are becoming a rare commodity. This product was the only one in the store. That gave me some trepidation on the purchase. When I installed the the device for my parent's 1990s VCR, it was reasonably easy to set up, and it performed its function admirably. The receiver picked up more stations than either of their digital TV's receivers. The picture quality from the device was quite good. I said "Yes" to "I would recommend this to a friend" under protest. It is a required choice. In reality, I would recommend to a friend that they update their technology to a digital receiver. However, my stubborn parents are not prepared to give up their VCR because it "still works" (with terrible picture quality). But their old A-D converter just stopped working, so we needed to add this to get a signal for the VCR. Even though they have trouble figuring out the sequence of what to turn on to be able to record and view VHS, they still prefer that confusion to dealing with some new fangled thang. Accepting the devil they know.

I might be one of the few who is using this to connect to a Sony SXRD projector but there seem to very few good options for add-on TV tuners. I searched high & low & started by trying a generic tuner that had the option to pause & rewind. Unfortunately, that could barely function as a decent tuner and didn't even come close on the DVR functionality. After hours of searching for better options, I decided to give this Insignia Tuner a chance. While it doesn't have any DVR functionality and was more expensive than some of the other online options, I do have to say, it works great! Compared to those low cost, generic options, this works much better and despite the smaller feature set, I really do believe it's the best option out there. If you're debating about this or some of the other, less expensive, more feature rich, generic options out there, save yourself the headache & buy this!

I have been buying these tuners for years, but for a different reason - to be able to turn digital TV signals into analog TV. Now there's a new reason to buy - an HDMI output. I am a streaming household, so I don't have cable or satellite. The downside is that I don't have local channels in my home office, and despite having a large 4K computer monitor to work with I had no way to follow local channels and the network programming (think NFL and other live sports) they carry while getting some work done. Enter the newest version of the Insignia digital-to-analog converter - which now has one very digital-to-digital trick). Originally designed for your grandma to be able to watch locals on her outdated tube TV, the big addition to this kit is the HDMI output and the promise to allow HD programming on your computer monitor. Technically this is true, but the highest resolution output I have been able to achieve is a 720i connection, with the alternative of 480p. While I realize that the broadcasters determine the maximum resolution they choose to transmit at, there are certainly some live TV programs that are available at 1080p full HD. Still, it was great being able to pop up the NFC Championship game in a window on my LG monitor, and I expect it won't be long before a version offering full HD is available - for which I would revise my opinion to five stars.

First off, I get more stations with this than with the tuner in my Sony tv. Pair it with a good antenna and you will like the results. The reason for the 4 stars is the interface could be a little better considering the price you pay for this box. All in all I am very pleased with this. I have cable but I still enjoy the local OTA programming. I will be buying another one to replace a piece of crap converter I have on a different tv. You definitely get what you pay for.

I bought this unit after returning a less expensive one from Best Buy. You get what you pay for, a world of difference. The Good: The user interface is much better, the hdmi 1080 looks great, there are also rca audio outs for use with a strereo of bluetooth transmitter. Yes you can send video via HDMI and still use the audio rca outs at the same time for the volume if you have a projector or stereo. Other: The rca video out is not as crisp or large as the digital hdmi out, and the remote seems to be directional at not ir and temperamental at times. Overall I still think this may be the best unit I've owned

Very easy to install, not a challenge at all. The sales person recommended the converter box so that I can connect an indoor antenna. My TV was purchased in 1998 so I was a little concerned if I could follow the instructions and do what was needed to a positive end results and I'm very pleased with the product and myself for being able to do it.

I had just bought a new smart tv for the living room so I moved the older smart tv upstairs and found this tv did not have a coax input. That's when I discovered that not all tv's have a turner to receive a tv signal. It had worked for me downstairs because I hooked my antenna to a TiVo OVA recorder, which has built in tuners, and the signal from the recorder was sent to the tv via HDMI. Checking online I found only a few digital to analog converters. Then I contact Best Buy and they indeed had one of these devices. The setup was easy. The only downside is that now I have one more external device sitting out and another remote to deal with. Hopefully I can use a universal remote I have to operate both devices.

Good little product for the money. We decided to get rid of the monthly TV bill and I am glad we did. We were talking about updating our projection TV to a flat screen as the picture was a bit blurred. Upon switching to this box the picture is crystal clear. Seems the TV wasn't the issue. This unit will record but requires a self powered external hard drive as the USB port isn't powered. Recordings are named weird. They don't have the program name in the title. On the bright side you can manually change each one individually once it has recorded; There is a basic program guide. The instruction booklet is very small print and light on information. I used you tube to figure a few things out. I took pictures of each page and then blew them up so I could read it, even the magnifying glass was a bit of a challenge. On and off lags. Patience is a virtue. Many times I have to hit it more than once to get it to respond And I've succeeded and then reversed the desired response because of the delay. I've learned to push the button and count to five before I try again. It has its glitches but it's a good basic product.

I believe their description is backwards. I used this to convert my analog signal from a coaxial antenna line out to a digital HDMI cable into my new VIZIO tv. It works great. I think its a priced a little too high, but it is a good product.

We have a somewhat complicated audio-visual entertainment system that operates off of a single universal remote. When the installed over-the-air antenna system could not be easily configured with the remote, the Insignia™ - Digital to Analog Converter Box with HDMI-output proved to be the best solution to the problem. Set up took about 15 minutes to complete, and our AV entertainment system now operates flawlessly.

Simple to setup. Plug into an antenna (purchase separately) and plug into your tv with HDMI cable provided. Use the remote provided and follow the instructions. Note: we can watch the local channel and receive Good Morning America in the am and National News in the evening. Only a few old TV shows on the four other channels. Never watch those. Wish we could get CBS and NBC. Guess those stations aren’t free on the airwaves in my area. Sometimes it stops working- have to turn everything off and wait a few minutes then turn back on. Same thing if the sound doesn’t work.

Device worked well. Was a little pricey for its basic features and functions. Device when changing through channels gets delayed and audio/video gets off. Would recommend only if they needed the cheapest option for their display.

I recently dumped cable TV because of the cost and went to over the air reception. With a signal booster antenna my reception improved greatly but there were still some stations which I should have been able to receive, but couldn't. When I tried the Insignia Digital to Analog Converter Box I went from 29 stations to 60. When you do a scan to see what stations are available using your TV it might not show some of the available station because the firmware in the TV is outdated and can't decode the signal. You need to use the Insignia to decode the signals if you have an older HD TV. If you use the HDMI outlet you will get HD reception if the station is broadcasting in that mode. You need to scan for stations using the Insignia, not the TV Scanner.

The converter we got when they first required them in 2009, no longer worked. We bought one at another retailer but returned it 'cause it was no better than the one we had and the remote was the size of a deck of cards. While at Best Buy, I asked the salesperson if I could check the remote. After seeing that the remote was a good size we purchased it. After setting it up and doing a channel scan, I was pleased but not excited about the difference. But then, I discovered I could plug in 2 antennas. With the use of 2 antennas, I could bring in stations that we could only watch on our TV that is connected to Comcast/Xfinity services. I am very pleased with this unit. I'm going to try another type of antenna next to see if that helps the reception more.

It works very well. The colors on my television even look better. Since I will be cancelling my very expensive cable service which is always going up in price as soon as the contract is up. I decided to stock up on some new converter boxes since all of my televisions are analog. It all worked out much better than the old one of the same brand.

We purchased a 70" Vizio not realizing it had no coaxial. We had an antenna we put on the roof and wired into our old cable line. Without the coaxial we had no way to watch local channels. We cut the cord so we used our Roku, firestick and antenna for local channels. This was the solution to our problem. Easy set up. No issues so far.

Going full antenna but have a tv or monitor that’s not too smart? This box is for you! 1. Connect your antenna to the box. 2. Connect that box to the screen. 3. Turn on the box and your tv screen. Feel like you’re at the turn of the century! Bonus: watch your bank account grow as you save that cable $$$.

I don't have cable and I had the old converter box we got free (from somewhere a few years back). The Insignia converter is okay, a bit pricey and I can't say it is an outstanding product. It does the job, shows the same channels as any other converter box. We'll see how long it lasts. Customer service was outstanding. It was sent and I received it quickly. Thank you!
