A: If I understood your Q correctly: The USB delivers the POWER needed to drive the speakers. The audio comes from the audio plug on your PC or laptop. At least that's how it worked out for me...I was also stumped for a while trying to figure the configuration out - but very happy at the end :-)
A: No, these speakers do not have their own volume controls. The volume will need to be controlled by the source device.

A: Should not be a problem as the magnets are very weak...they barely hold the two speakers together.

A: No the usb powers them you still need to use the input
