Inventions - Maze of Woods - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Beginning with a trace of uncontrollable laughter that shifts into the driving atmosphere and unfolding elation of opening track InchHint and Omens,Inch Continuous Portrait is an album of strange hypnosis, punctuated by songs that venture quite far from the respective oeuvres of Cooper and Smith. The spry, playful layers of InchCalicoInch bounce against a steady thrum of rhythms and samples from everyday noises, while the dancing lightness of InchOutlook for the FutureInch is met with a storm of emotional resonance. Both tracks emerge as distinctively different directions for Inventions, and it is that very sense of exploration, pleasure, and ceremonial melancholia which informs the entire album from front to back. Inventions has always been the product of two friends who find comfort and inspiration in the genuine surprise of creating and combining sounds. Continuous Portrait whirls and hums like Cooper and Smith want us to invoke our inner playfulness and welcome a greater joy into our lives, if only for a moment. The result is a portrait that continuously embraces the completely foreign and familiar, and evolves with each successive listen. Album Tracks 1. Hints and Omens 2. Calico 3. Continuous Portrait 4. Upon hearing Decrepit Flesh Relic, the first album from Civerous, one was left with a feeling of intense suffocating weight and agonal prostration in the service of bone-breaking death hymns. With the towering new album, Maze Envy, LA's most creatively destructive death / doom ensemble let loose a freshly evolved but no less brutal conflagration of immersive horror and morbid lamentation.Where death / doom may often stay in safe and unadventerous realms of narrow focus, Maze Envy presents a more far-reaching breadth of ambition, where unusual technicality, progressive atmospheres, string flourishes and chaotic mysticism radiate a purple light of the soul's ascension from the black oceans of dread Civerous inhabit. Chain-dragging dirge, blackened blasting, and the savage ferocity of Lord Foul's hellish vocal exorcisms exalt Mazy Envy with a hellish grandeur within it's myriad paths to oblivion. With a massively crushing sound, Maze Envy is end times music for an age in which that reckoning feels unfathomably close. Civerous batter the senses into a state of labyrinthian turmoil from which emergence is ever more implausible.
