iOttie - Velox Qi2 Wireless Dashboard & Windshield Car Mount - Carbon Black

The dash of my car is curved so I have the phone holder installed using the suction cup on my windshield. The magnet to hold the phone is strong yet releases easily when I pull on it. The suction cup has held well in temperatures of 90°. It has not yet gone through a winter so I don’t know how it will hold in the cold, but suspect it will be fine.

Super strong magnet and the wireless charging capability is outstanding. Definitely would recommend this product.

This magnetic wireless (phone to base) has been great. The magnet is strong and the overall unit is light weight. Has plenty of cord even for wider vehicles.

This is a very good dashboard and windshield car mount. My old one had a MagSafe ability and wanted the same for my smart phone. This one by iOttie is very good at the MagSafe portion but I did notice some limitations on this. First off, this is a very solid build With 2 two hinges, you are able to adjust the height and can rotate the neck area for your phone. The neck can extend but it is very short, a few extra inches of extension which is a little disappointing. The hinges can be tightened which prevents it from accidentally dropping or moving. The charging ability is a very nice addition to this. It connects via usb-c cord. As most vehicles these days have a usb-c port, this is almost a must when using. If the vehicle does not have that IO option, this comes with a plug in for the auxiliary power outlet. It charges fast but I have noticed my phone getting a little warm. Only when I absolutely need to charge it or connect it to my car’s infotainment system for hands free would I use it. Suction ability is where I feel this does fall a little short. It comes with the ability to mount on the dash or on the windshield. For the dash set up, it has a flat disk that you install first. You do need to leave it on the dash for about 20 minutes first and allow the adhesive strip to really bond with the dash before it becomes effective. I made the mistake of not doing it too long, and when I tried to stick the mount, it feel down. You also need to be aware of where you install it on the dashboard as most dashes are not completely flat, so you have to find that flat spot. Mine was located near the middle behind the info center on my minivan so I do have to make a reach to use it. Thus, I wish the neck extended a few more inches than the current maximum. After waiting 20 minutes and retried it, it worked really well. The window installation is really simple and effortless and hangs well. Overall, this is a very good car mount for your smart phone. I do wish that the next extended more since most vehicles have odd shaped windshields and dashboards. I like the charging ability on this but it does warm up my phone. It works well and I am happy for that.

I had high hopes for this device because I have a windshield gooseneck mount that I planned to combine with this for the ultimate wireless charging set up for when I go to the drag strip in my 2018 Infiniti Q50 AWD Twin Turbo 3L V6. However, I ran into multiple issues with this particular product. All of which are related to the product itself & not how I meshed the gooseneck mount with this product. I'll get into the issues fully down below. The installation of this device was really straightforward and easy. The device holds into place really well & doesn't move when it is on it's original base as the arm is really stiff, which is nice & is something that other similar products I have had actually failed at miserably. So that was really nice & so it is a testament to the overall quality of the product. However, and this is a big however, the cover which goes over the charging disc & the magnets popped off & allowed my phone to fall. I saw that it looked like it was held on my a super thin double-sided sticky tape. You can actually confirm this by pushing on the disc-shaped charger and hearing it pop in and pop out. I can foresee this failing miserably when left in a hot vehicle because the tape will heat up, lose it's grip and allow it to fall off just like it did in my vehicle. Next, I was having intermittent issues where my phone would randomly not wirelessly charge. The included 12v DC to USB-C adapter has no LEDs or other indications of power and so it became impossible to tell if I actually had power coming out of the socket in my car. I tried it in our 2020 Civic Sport Coupe and had the same issues, so it wasn't the socket of my vehicle. I actually went to a different big box retail store in order to get a 12v DC socket to USB-C adapter that had an LED indicator when it had power and I was able to get power every time, all the time with it. So the included 12v DC to USB-C adapter is just plain awful and will have to be replaced. To fix the previously mentioned falling out of the cover and causing my phone to fail I actually used super glue around the edges to glue it together & it has not fallen out or off since. I wanted to love this device because I need to have the gauges that are on the tuning app for my car visible to me when I am at the drag strip, and I wanted to utilize this for wireless CarPlay while also keeping my phone charged. And while I do like it, I just could not get over the issues I was having. The manufacturer did send me a replacement device because they thought I got a defective one but even this one is having the same issues as the first/original one. So that means I will be replacing the 12v DC to USB-C adapter as well as gluing the MagSafe cover that I know will eventually fall off/out. It hasn't yet but I know it will because it is already doing the popping in and out thing when you press on the area which is what the first one did before it completely popped out & wouldn't stay in. The Good: 1. Wireless Charging 2. Positionable 3. Mount Arm is high quality The Bad: 1. Included 12V DC to USB-C Adapter has no indication of power 2. Included 12V DC to USB-C Adapter would only intermittently work The Ugly: 1. Replaced 12V DC to USB-C adapter with a better quality one that always works 100% of the time; replacing was absolutely necessary to make this device work as intended. 2. Had to glue the MagSafe cover because the factory double-sided sticky tape would NOT hold it in place & my phone would fall 3. Replacement device from the manufacturer is experiencing the same issues as the first one In closing, if you are in a pinch and want to give this a try, by all means give it a shot, but be ready to replace the 12V DC to USB-C adapter & ready to super glue the MagSafe cover onto the device permanently-both out of your own pocket. And so this goes from a relatively inexpensive and cost effective solution into the range of higher priced models that don't have this blatant design & quality problems.
