J. Brahms - Nowak Conduct Brahms - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Jonathan Biss concludes his nine-year, nine-volume exploration of Beethoven's piano sonatas with a recording for our times, one that asks profound questions about mankind's fragile existence. The final album in his critically acclaimed cycle, set for on Orchid Classics, brings together three works that each stand as the last of a group of three sonatas. The American pianist begins with a masterwork of Beethoven's early creative period, the Sonata No.7 in D major, Op.10 No.3. It's stop-start finale, punctuated by silences, prefaces a compelling interpretation of the Sonata No.18 in E flat major, Op.31 No.3, a work that blends unsettling introspection and playful high spirits. Biss ends his Beethoven odyssey with the Sonata No.32 in C minor Op.111, the composer's farewell to the genre. InchIt is a beautiful irony that these pieces feature so many more questions than they do answers - that they offer so much more uncertainty than certainty,Inch observes Jonathan Biss in his eloquent essay for the album's booklet. InchIt is especially fascinating given that this is Beethoven, of all people a composer of unmatched inner conviction and intensity. And yet, ultimately, this music is as much about his vulnerability as it is about his strength.Inch Album Tracks 1. Piano Sonata No. 7 in D Major Op. 10 No. 3 2. Piano Sonata No. 18 in E Flat Major, Op.31 No. 3 3. Piano Sonata No. 32 in C minor, Op. 111

This album pays tribute to the singular world of Valentin Silvestrov, a composer whose music gently reaches out to the past while also resonating with the voices of such contemporaries as Leonid Hrabovsky, Alexander Knaifel, Arvo Part, and Andre Volkonsky.Curated and performed by pianist Alexei Lubimov, the recording unfolds like an intimate uninterrupted journey; a musical dialogue among friends and fellow spirits united by admiration and shared feelings.Silvestrov's Bagatelles form the heart of the album, not miniatures in the traditional sense, but fleeting moments of music. Each piece is open-ended, flowing into the next and forming a delicate chain that gradually reveals a shimmering, larger form.A deeply personal listening experience, this album invites the listener into a space where every sound feels like a whisper across time thoughtful, luminous, and quietly profound.
