Jade Hairpins - Mother Man / Gracefully - 12-INCH SINGLE [12 inch Vinyl Single]

Jade Hairpins sneaked onto the scene in late 2018 with a mysterious 12-inch on Merge Records and a couple of poetic sentences about hiding in trees. The tag remained tight-lipped while touting Dose Your Dreams, a truly epic new Fucked Up album released on the same day. Fast forward to 2020, when Fucked Up drummer Jonah Falco and songwriter/guitarist Mike Haliechuk burst out of the proverbial trees with Harmony Avenue, a collection of songs written and recorded in real time. Pop foraging with analog acoustics and electronic landscaping. The album's themes mostly focus on contradictory behavior and double entendres as well as regret and control, revelation, support, and complete absurdity. Jade Hairpins are here to challenge, confound, and sparkle their way into listeners' hearts and keep them coming back for more!

Jade Hairpins waste no time fulfilling their second album's titular demand. From it's harmony-drenched opening note to it's baroque-anthemic conclusion, Get Me the Good Stuff is positively loaded with musical ideas, an absurdist buffet of sound and aesthetic that comes with one hell of a floorshow as the Hairpins stack those ideas higher and higher, almost daring them to crash to the floor. Instead, those elements-punksploitation, power pop, baggy, funk, and Italo disco are just some touchstones-are not only held aloft, they defy gravity and convention. It is, in other words, overwhelming. Or it would be if Jade Hairpins-Jonah Falco and Mike Haliechuk-weren't remarkably nimble in their ability to bring unity to sounds by placing them in competition against each other. When those sounds are adjacent, like the glam and disco that saturate InchDrifting Superstition,Inch the thrill of those universes colliding in the heat of an absolutely filthy clavichord line turns it's lyrics, about the habit of solving personal problems by ignoring them, into a winner's anthem on the order of Bowie or Hot Chocolate. Theatrical and personal, absurd and true-to-life, playful and serious, Get Me the Good Stuff is an album of tremendous personal and artistic growth that signposts towards dozens of potential futures to come. It's not only worth the attention, it continuously rewards it.

The follow-up to their groundbreaking debut, Life Is Peachy further established Korn as pioneers of the nu-metal movement. The album's raw intensity and unconventional sound helped shape heavy music in the late 1990s.
