James Judd - Mermaid / Sinfonietta - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Perhaps no other English composer of the first half of the twentieth century reveals a stylistic musical journey as varied as that of Frank Bridge.

Known as 'the elder statesman of New Zealand classical music', Douglas Lilburn was instrumental in establishing a genuinely vernacular voice. All the works on this recording portray New Zealand's culture through an idiom instantly recognizable to listener.

The marches that Elgar wrote, whether for public occasions or as an incidental part of other works, represent only one aspect of his achievement as a composer.
