About this product
With Magische Töne, Jonas Kaufmann returns to the world of operetta and late Romantic opera, presenting a collection of some of the genre's most beautiful and beloved melodies. Recorded in Budapest with the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra under the baton of Dirk Kaftan, the album celebrates the rich musical heritage of the Austro Hungarian Empire (1867-1918). The new recording brings together perennial favourites by Emmerich Kálmán, Franz Lehár, and Paul Abraham, alongside lesser known treasures such as Bob's entrance aria from Jeno Huszka's (Bob Herceg). Several duets enrich the programme further, including the sparkling InchKomm mit nach VarasdinInch from Gräfin Mariza, performed with soprano Nikola Hillebrand, one of today's most sought after voices. Among the collection's highlights are the two opera arias InchHazám, hazámInch from Ferenc Erkel's Bánk bán and the album's title track, InchMagische TöneInch from Karl Goldmark's Die Königin von Saba. These works demonstrate Kaufmann's versatility across contrasting styles and vocal demands, resulting in a glowing tribute to a cosmopolitan era of European music. Album Tracks 1. Gräfin Mariza, Act I Komm Zigány 2. Gräfin Mariza, Act I Duett InchIch Bitte, Nicht Lachen... Komm Mit Nach Varasdin! 3. Gräfin Mariza, Act I Mondd Meg, Hogy Imádom a Pesti Noket (GRÜß Mir Wien) 4. SUBJECT Beginning in the 1950s, the CIA became very interested in psychological research being conducted on the effects of sensory deprivation on humans. The research, that suggested rapid regression in those tested, provided a framework for sections of what would later be known as the KUBARK manual, the first in a series of US-government documents that provided techniques for interrogating detainees. Though the idea of sound as a weapon is at least as old as the account of Joshua's siege of Jericho, it was only recently deemed Inchinhuman and degradingInch for the purposes of interrogation by the European Court of Human Rights in the 1978 case InchIreland v. ![Ashley Hutchings - Ninety-Nine Impressions - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/a77e7848-726a-460e-b85c-c460155815b1.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Ashley has come a long way since his early days of Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span. In fact some 99 albums later. At this point in his distinguished career, Ninety-Nine. Impressions is both a surprise and the most logical album one could expect, being a sequence of poems and prose pieces set to minimal musical accompaniment. Spoken word has been a part of Ashley's work since Steeleye Span, perhaps most notably on Rattlebone and Ploughjack and An Hour with Cecil Sharp, but this is the first album to be centred entirely upon the voice. While a long way from folk rock, what connects it to his most celebrated work from the past half-century or so is it's historical and cultural depth reframed for the immediate present. Album Tracks 1. Prologue/Coming in to Land 2. Contrary As Trees/When My Son Is Grown 3. Guns and Roses 4. Move Over Oscar 5. With One Eye/The Sun Is God/With the Other 6. Four Tattoo Sonnets 7. Man's Nobliest Frailty 8. Half-Saints, Half Rascals 9. Interlude - Earendal 10. The Coast of Nowhere/Copper, Russet and Gold 11. He Riot of Spring 12. Hackney Marshes 13. It Is Not for the Want of Will 14. Ice Cream/The Show Goes on 15. Fleas
![Kaufmann Kaufmann - From the New World - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/a1cff1fb-d95e-4a24-8171-2b4fc9dca95d.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Often universal organs have the problem that they are not particularly well suited to either baroque or symphonic music. However, Daniel Kern's organ at Frauenkirche Dresden is a shining example of a very successful bridge between the different organ traditions. When choosing an instrument for this recording of Antonín Dvorák's Symphony No. 9 InchFrom the New WorldInch in Pascal Kaufmann's transcription for four-handed organ, the standard was to have good drawing abilities of the characteristic 8' and 4' basic stops. Thanks to the diversity of the pipe scales, on the one hand in the style of Gottfried and Andreas Silbermann, and on the other hand reminiscent of Cavaillé-Coll (France, 19th Century), there is a sufficiently large selection on the Kern organ. The very dynamic swell pedal with French reed stops and the setterboards with modern standards allow the players to keep the symphony lively with a total of over 400 different registrations. Two more works round off the at hand the Humoreske op. 101/7 by Antonín Dvorák in a transcription for (two-handed) organ by Edwin Lemare and InchDer Heilige Franziskus von Paula auf den Wogen schreitendInch S175 by Franz Liszt, also as four-handed transcription by Pascal Kaufmann - a work that once again illustrates the multifaceted nature of the Kern organ beautifully. The brothers Markus and Pascal Kaufmann come from Lichtenstein (Saxony). Their training pathways included studying together at the Dresden College of Music InchCarl Maria von WeberInch and the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik in Dresden. Pascal Kaufmann worked as assistant for Frauenkirche organist Samuel Kummer and is currently church musician in Augustusburg (Saxony) while Markus Kaufmann is working as Cathedral organist in Quedlinburg. The recordings for the album at hand were supported by Frauenkirche Foundation. Album Tracks 1. Humoreske Op.101/7 2. 9.
