Jeffrey Halford & the Healers - Railbirds - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

With songwriting that nods as much towards Sam Shephard and Jack Kerouac as it does to the usual songwriting gods, Hunkpapa captures the multi-faceted soul of America past, present, and maybe future as well. This album is a redemptive journey that just ha. Shoeless Records.2005.

This is the 6th from San Francisco-based singer/songwriter/guitar slinger/poet Jeffrey Halford. As a master purveyor of rootsy, bluesy rock with a pop sensibility, Halford and his band, the Healers (featuring Augie Meyers), shake the rafters, raise your consciousness, and sanctify your soul. Halford's is a uniquely American voice, authentic and timeless. Bruce Kaphan, longtime guitarist and producer of American Music Club, co-produced the album with Halford. Jeffrey also brought in the legendary Texas Music Hall of Famer Augie Meyers on keyboard, as well as Louisiana's own Kirk 'Jellyroll' Johnson on harmonica to assure that grooves would be raucous and greasy.

Exit Ghosts is partly influenced by the history of film scores and the aesthetics carried by that tradition. As an instrumental album, Nordmark is tasked with conjuring emotions without words, and the way he utilizes specific cues mirrors the process of film scores, in addition to the work of seminal composers such as Tim Hecker, Arthur Russell, and Jóhann Jóhannsson. Tomas Nordmark's music operates on multiple, equally thrilling planes. Having cultivated a deep appreciation for conceptual art and the phase-shifting minimalism pioneered by the downtown avant-garde community of NYC in the '60s, Nordmark set out to blend that with his pop-oriented upbringing and unique perspective on electronic music. The Swedish-born, London-based composer's new album pulses with unrelenting energy, waving and cresting around ambient tension and gorgeously realized melodies.
