Jeremy Ivey - Invisible Pictures - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This is the kind of songwriting I've always been drawn to,Inch says Jeremy Ivey. InchThe perpetual motion, the intricate melodies, the sprawling arrangements. This album is the real me.Inch Juxtaposing raw, unflinching personal reckonings with jaunty, buoyant melodies and rich, kaleidoscopic production, Invisible Pictures, Ivey's third album for ANTI- Records, is indeed a revelation. Though the songs are rooted in a 21st century swirl of chaos and uncertainty, the record is, at it's core, an undeniably feel-good collection, one that refuses to surrender to the existential ache it so artfully captures. Instead, Ivey embraces the sheer, unmitigated joy of creative freedom and sonic exploration here, drawing on everything from flamenco and classical music to vintage indie rock and British Invasion tunes to craft a passionate, transcendent album more reminiscent of John Lennon or Elliott Smith than anything coming out of Nashville these days. InchI try to put a little bit of hope into everything I do,Inch Ivey reflects. InchNo matter how heavy, no matter how dark things may get, there's always a little bit of light shining through. On his last effort, Jeremy Ferrara's mesmerizing fretwork and comforting chord choices often found the way to the front and center of the sound. The precision with which he plays every single note becomes captivating. His gentle voice lulls you into a liminal listening space, where his etudes do the work of examining life for you. On Darkness Is A Bright Sound, produced by Luke Temple (Adrianne Lenker, Hand Habits), we get the full band effort we've been craving from Ferrara. The resulting album benefits from Temple's near imperceptible, complimentary bass and synth, and blows in like the breeze. The disarming title track opens the album to find Ferrara at work, tenderly demonstrating that Inchnothing is truly defined,Inch and if we - or the world - are ever able to be defined, it will be by many sides, many things, not one. With our focus shifted, our balance found, it's easy to follow Ferrara into Darkness Is A Bright Sound. Album Tracks 1. Darkness Is a Bright Sound 2. Come and Go 3. Paint Me Blue 4. Different Way 5. Reason 6. Morning Light 7. Like the Fog, Like the Shore 8. Wild/Unknown/Free
