Jérôme Attal - Comme Elle Se Donne - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

It's no secret that we can be a li le bit geeky. On VSQ Otaku we indulged our fandom a bit and chose twelve essential anime themes that we hold near and dear to our nerdy hearts. From the emotive yearning of Neon Genesis Evangelion's InchA Cruel Angel's ThesisInch to the wild frenzy of InchJoJo (Sono Chino Sadame)Inch from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, we reimagined these timeless openings with all the lushness and tranquility a string quartet can provide. Something of a spiritual successor to our fan-favorite VSQ The World of Studio Ghibli, VSQ Otaku was our chance to revisit some old favorites and bring them to a new light.

For this 12th studio album, the Franco-Quebecer with a singular trajectory rises to the level of the greatest. By releasing the album Une clairière in 2019 on the French tag Objet Disque, he allowed the public and the media on this side of the Atlantic to rediscover him. It has to be said that he had gradually been lost from sight since his exile in Montreal at the end of the 90s, following two (cult) first albums InchMonde pour n'importe quiInch and InchLa nuit éclaire le jour qui suitInch released at the time by Lithium. Like his former tag mates Dominique A, Diabologum and Mendelson, the Orléans native has continued to take the French language to musical territories on the fringes of song and experimentation, resulting with this new album in one of his most complete records, which digests and sums up all his influences. A unique style, a real signature.

As made clear already by widely-spread preview track InchKill It in the MorningInch and first single InchSick,Inch The Twilight Sad's third full-length, NO ONE CAN EVER KNOW, marks a sonic shift for the band. Freshly inspired by a listening diet of Cabaret Voltaire, Can, Liars, Magazine, Autechre, and Public Image Limited, the band turn to a dark, synth-heavy sound for NO ONE CAN EVER KNOW; the resulting LP shares thematic and sonic space with the most innovative offerings from Depeche Mode, the Cure, or even Nine Inch Nails.
