A journey into the heart of the Danish soul. Kim Larsen (1945-2018) - the much loved Danish rock musician and multi-artist -Kim Larsen (1945-2018) - the much-loved Danish rock musician and multifaceted artist - captures - in music and words - the Danish soul. With his 500 recorded songs and 40 albums he is known by all Danes of all ages. Guitarist, and head of guitar department at The Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, Jesper Sivebæk, had 2 heroes in his youth Andrés Segovia and Kim Larsen - and they have followed him ever since. For more than 10 years Jesper Sivebæk has worked on the pieces on this album. With his great experience he uses the possibilities of the guitar to the utmost, and follows the classical tradition of making instrumental versions of folk songs - as in Miguel Llobet's arrangements of Catalan folksongs, Benjamin Britten's English and Chinese folksongs arrangements, and Bela Bartok's Hungarian folk songs. Sivebæk is true both to the beauty and the simplicity of Kim Larsens songs, and to his instrument - the classical Spanish guitar. John Tavener studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Sir Lennox Berkeley and David Lumsdaine. In 1968 his dramatic cantata The Whale took it's audience by storm and led to his music being recorded on The Beatles' Apple tag. Since that time Tavener has continued to show an originality of concept and an intensely personal idiom, making his a voice quite separate from those of his contemporaries. Over the years, the contemplative side of his nature has led him in more spiritual directions and his commitment to the Russian Orthodox Church, which he joined in 1977, is now evident in all his work. In an interview published in his recent book The Music of Silence, Sir John Tavener wrote. InchIf you listen to the music of the East, somehow the divine is already there. It is - which is a parallel with the eternal 'I am.Inch' What this means in practical terms is that Tavener, in aiming at writing music suitable to convey the theology and the spirituality of the Orthodox Church, to participate in some way in that Incheternal 'I amInch', creates music of what one might call Inchdynamic stasisInch. In other words, the long phrases of eastern chant (of various traditions), the harmonic transparency and the stillness of his work runs counter to what the composer sees as the more InchactiveInch spirit of western sacred music; nevertheless, Tavener's western background inevitably and naturally plays it's part, and the unique sound of the fusion of these two is characteristic of all of the works on this disc. This album is a KUV project InchIn Collaboration with Ole SchmidtInch. An artistic and collegial journey with accordionist Bjarke Mogensen and guitarist Jesper Sivebrek, in which a number of Schmidt's forgotten concertos are brought back to life.
