About this product

The sweet, soulful sound of Philadelphia has been experiencing a huge resurgence over the past decade and a lot of that has to with the efforts of veteran producer Butch Ingram who has consistently introduced new voices into the ever-expanding R&B community. A case in point would be the enormously talented lead vocalist Jimi Williams. Jimi literally has this music in his blood, being related to Billy Paul Williams, one of the main progenitors of the sound. With an elastic voice and remarkable range, Jimi is able to handle such a wide range of material effortlessly, as he does fronting the popular Philly band TRU. On his new solo EP Make Love Easy, Wiliams pays tribute to some of his favorite male artists from the golden age of Philly Soul including Billy Paul, Freddie Jackson, Donny Hathaway, and Charlie Wilson. To make the sound truly authentic, Jimi is backed by members of the Ingram Brothers Band, with the impeccable voices of Carla Benson, Sharon Ingram, Nikita Harmon and TRU's Billy Maynor and Dennis Sproul providing the background vocals - as they have done on so many Philly Soul hits over the years.

Jimi Williams - I Think I'll Stay Home Today - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Philly Soul has been experiencing a huge resurgence over the past decade and a lot of that has to with the efforts of veteran producer Butch Ingram who has consistently introduced new voices into the ever-expanding talent pool. A case in point would be the vocal group TRU and their enormously talented lead vocalist Jimi Williams. The song InchI Think I'll Stay Home Today,Inch originally sung by Billy Paul many years ago, was a beloved favorite within the R&B community. Billy Paul (Williams) is a family member of Jimi Williams so Jimi knew the song well. When Carla Benson said it was one of her favorites also from the time The Sweeties recorded the background with Billy, Ingram decided to record it as the first solo project for Jimi Williams - and Benson, Sharon Ingram and Nikita Harmon are singing the background vocals almost note for note as they did the first time, all those years ago. The new single is presented here along with a special instrumental version of the track as an added bonus. This excellent new version of Billy Paul's time-honored tune will no doubt attract new and old fans alike, and places Jimi Williams where he belongs - at center stage.

Jimmy Phillips - I Want A Love I Can See - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The Sons Of Robin Stone were a blue-eyed soul outfit that took Southwest Philadelphia by storm beginning in the early 1970s, and revolved around it's core of sensational vocalists Jimmy Phillips (lead and first tenor), Joe Dougherty (lead, first and second tenor), Jim InchFlickInch Farrow (baritone and second tenor), John InchPatcheyeInch Palladino (baritone) and Franny Flynn (bass). Visually as well as musically striking, their electrifying sets at Atlantic City's famed Steel Pier are the stuff of legend. They paved the way for acts such as New Kids On The Block and their influence is still felt today. Phillips was recently summoned into the studio by legendary producer Butch Ingram to record a brand-new EP featuring updated arrangements of three of the Sons Of Robin Stone's biggest hits as well as couple other beloved soul classics. Jimmy delivers a remarkable performance on The Temptations chestnut InchI Want A Love I Can See,Inch which was so good it was chosen as the lead single for the project.
