Jimmie Dale Gilmore - Come on Back - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

For some time Jimmie Dale Gilmore has been wanting to go back to a time before country music got really commercialized and he saw his opportunity with the Wronglers. He and Warren Hellman (founder and benefactor of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival) have joined forces to make HEIRLOOM MUSIC, an album of early twentieth century, folk-rooted country music featuring material from the likes Charlie Poole, the Carter Family, Bill Monroe, Bob Wills and the Delmore Brothers.

Jerry Weldon - The Summit - InchKeep it swinging; that's the main thingInch is not only tenor saxophonist Jerry Weldon's description of the music on this album from his new band but also can stand as his musical life motto. The band heard here reflects his love of the hard swinging, hard bop bands of the mid-20th Century, most notably Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers (especially when it was a sextet with trumpet, tenor sax and trombone) and The Jazztet (of Benny Golson and Art Farmer). Weldon has put together a band of younger, but veteran, jazz musicians; Alonzo Demetrius, trumpet; Peter Lin, trombone; Mike Bond, piano; Jason Clotter, bass, and Carmen Intorre Jr., drums. This album was recorded live before an enthusiastic crowd at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center in New Jersey.

The music of Christmas Tidings consists of new settings of some familiar words and other entirely original tracks that I have written over many years. (Brian Knowles) InchBrian Knowles has a wonderful gift of melody. All his pieces are full of character showcasing his gift for marrying text and music to create songs that are a joy to sing and a delight to listen to. This album contains pieces in a variety of different styles and moods, attractive and deeply moving new carols full of invention and insight and others that bring a welcome freshness and life to traditional texts. No doubt, it will enrich and invigorate your Christmas for years to come.Inch (David Ogden)
