About this product

In 2009, 79-year-old jazz drummer Jimmy Cobb, then the last surviving member of the famous Miles Davis group that had recorded the iconic Kind Of Blue album, was enjoying a late-career renaissance as a bandleader. Recruiting the Texas trumpet sensation and flugelhorn master Roy Hargrove alongside guitarist Russell Malone and bassist John Webber, Cobb recorded Jazz In The Key Of Blue, an exquisite collection of quiet, moody-invoking, late-night ballads for Chesky Records. The quartet offers stunning interpretations of standards from The Great American Songbook - including 'Every Time We Say Goodbye, ' and 'I Had The Craziest Dream' - with jazz-inflected covers of pop hits (Billy Preston and Syreeta's 1979 Motown hit 'With You I'm Born Again') and striking original tunes (Cobb's 'Remembering U').Bolstered with new liner notes featuring quotes from bassist John Webber, Jazz In The Key Of Blue is reissued in 2026 as part of the Chesky Original Masters series on SACD Hybrid Stereo.Note These Hybrid SACD discs are compatible with all standard CD and SACD players.

Four In Blue - Four in Blue - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Earthy blues and soul jazz. The bandleader, saxophonist Radek Zapadlo (Vilém Spilka Quartet, Cotatcha Orchestra, Ondrej Ruml, Matej Benko, etc.) founded the quartet in 2017, inspired by the legendary recordings InchBack at the Chicken ShackInch and InchMidnight SpecialInch by the great InchHammondInch player Jimmy Smith. Since then, the quartet has moved towards it's own original music in the aesthetics of those recordings and styles. All members of the band, even the traditionalist Radek Zapadlo, a well-known jazz conservative, forced themselves to write compositions for this band. Therefore we will have a unique opportunity to hear Zapadlo´s future hits Dog´s Blues, Fried Egg or Blues for Magda. Surprisingly early, the band has made it to their debut eponymous album, which was born in pain in the infamous studio Jalovec in Babice nad Svitavou. Radek Zapadlo, playing tenor and alto saxophone in Four in Blue, surrounded himself with equally experienced players so that the band's line up can pay respect to Smith's original recordings - Petr Turecek (a rising jazz star from the Department of Jazz at the JAMU Brno) on drums, Vladan Ronner (Mulligang, Milan Kašuba Trio etc.) on Hammond organ and Vilém Spilka (Vilém Spilka Quartet etc.) on guitar. The band's current repertoire is dominated by originals penned by all band members. You can check out the core of it on this .

Fazil Say - Complete Violin Works - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Fazil Say is one of the world's most prominent pianists but he is also a much-admired composer with a substantial catalogue of works. He combines both these accomplishments in his two Violin Sonatas, the first of which is suffused with Turkish motifs and dances, such as the horon. The second sonata takes as it's theme the abuse of nature and the need to resist despoliation. His Violin Concerto is subtitled '1001 Nights in the Harem' and is full of rich melodies and atmosphere, and features an array of Turkish percussion instruments. One of the most creative and versatile artists of his generation, German-born Friedemann Eichhorn's artistic activities range from performing early Baroque music on period instruments to classical and contemporary works with renowned orchestras and chamber music partners. Among many other pieces, Eichhorn rediscovered and first recorded the complete violin concertos by French virtuoso Pierre Rode. He studied with Valery Gradow, Alberto Lysy and Margaret Pardee and graduated from the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts, the International Menuhin Music Academy and The Juilliard School. He also earned a PhD in musicology at the University of Mainz.
