Jackie Wilson - Complete Singles As & Bs 1952-62 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Jackie Wilson earned the nickname InchMr ExcitementInch for his performances as one of the most dynamic and electrifying soul singers of the '50s and '60s, with an extraordinary four-octave vocal range and an ability to deliver up-tempo rockers and dramatic semi-operatic ballads with equal credibility and panache. He made his first solo records in 1953 under the name Sonny Wilson for Dizzy Gillespie's Dee Gee tag, before joining Billy Ward & The Dominoes as a replacement for Clyde McPhatter, when the latter went solo. Wilson, in turn, embarked on a solo career in 1956 for the Brunswick tag, scoring a landmark hit with his first InchReet PetiteInch, and going on to chalk up fifty hits before suffering a disabling heart attack in 1975, which ended his career, with thirty of those hits coming during the years covered by this collection. Great-value 55-track 2-CD set comprising the A & B sides of all his singles during the era for the Dee Gee and Brunswick labels, which as well as InchReet PetiteInch features the Top 10 hits InchTo Be LovedInch, InchLonely TeardropsInch, InchNightInch & InchAlone At LastInch along with his other chart entries from the era. Also included are bonus tracks from six of his albums released during from these years. It's a worthy showcase for a unique talent

Jimmy Reed - Complete Singles As & BS 1953-61 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Jimmy Reed was a hugely influential figure of the blues and R&B scene during the 1950s and early '60s, not only for the fact that he brought his distinctive style of electric blues to mainstream audiences, but also because in the process he inspired many aspiring talents on both sides of the Atlantic, notably The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Jerry Garcia, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Van Morrison, who all recorded versions of various Jimmy Reed R&B hits. He came to prominence in the early '50s when he was one of the first artists to sign to VeeJay, and over the years scored around twenty Top 20 R&B hits, with a dozen or more pop chart entries as well, underlining his importance as a crossover artist. Among them were memorable classics, which have been much covered over the years, such as InchAin't That Loving You BabyInch, InchHonest I DoInch, InchLittle RainInch, InchBaby What You Want Me To DoInch and InchBright Lights, Big CityInch, all of which are included in this great value 54-track 2-CD collection, which comprised every A and B side he released from his debut in 1953 through to the first months
