About this product
With the naive swagger of youth, JJ have already completed their next full-length. If no 2 was (as it was to many) the quintessential summer 2009 album, n 3 is destined to be the quintessential winter 2010 album, a soft, red smear of blood on a field of fresh snow. JJ create R&B and Balearic dub from the ghosts of lost lovers; pop as delicate as a fawn's nose across blades of frosted grass. It is the soundtrack for friends packed into the town square's tiniest tavern, their moon tanned, apple-cheeked faces glowing, their dilated pupils filled with all the meaning and meaninglessness of a magic 8-ball. Their music is both carefree without carelessness, and self-aware without being self-conscious. With it, they build an ice bridge arching from Gothenburg into the heart of middle America, and everywhere in between.

The emergence of Swedish duo JJ in March 2009 was both meaningful and mysterious. A debut single, JJ no.1, enchanted the music press, simultaneously existing across indie-pop and hip-hop spectrums, excitingly new and yet frustratingly vague in it's presentation. This was a taste, a scent, something intangible, an impression made without force. The music was here, but little else it's makers remained anonymous. Pitchfork's Best New Music review for the band's debut album, summer 2009's JJno.2, spoke first of their enigmatic qualities, rather than precisely what this music was another sumptuous menagerie of styles, blended by an expert hand, intoxicating and otherworldly. Both Elin Kastlander and Joakim Benon appeared in the Marcus Soderlund-directed video to ?Let Go?. Cover, broken. Evidently at the top of their game in 2014, JJ are ready to, in Benon's words, communicate with the world, quite unlike they've ever done so before. They're embracing, not retreating. Besides, mysteries are more frustrating than fascinating without resolution.

Brownout's legendary status as a InchFunk PowerhouseInch (Stereogum) is a reputation well deserved. The band of musicians have an impressive resume performing with Prince (RIP), GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, Bernie Worrell (RIP), and accolades from Ozzy Osbourne for their Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath project. The latter helped grab the attention of Fat Beats Records, who worked with the band to the critically acclaimed Public Enemy instrumentals project Fear of A Brown Planet in 2018. The Austin 9-piece is back with their first full length album of original music in over 8 years. The album, aptly titled, Berlin Sessions (out March 6, 2020 on Fat Beats) was produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos and is the first with lead singer Alex Marrero, whom they originally collaborated with on their wildly successful Brown Sabbath records. Berlin Sessions finds the group merging a multitude of styles, from rock to psych and of course the Latin Funk and Breakbeat on which they have built their sixteen-year career and reputation as Austin's premier party-starters. NPR recently featured the band on their heralded InchTiny Desk ConcertInch series, performing songs off the new album. NPR described the diversity of the band, stating, InchOne of the things you need to know about this band is that they can change traditions or genres almost on a dime. The core members dip into soul, Latin funk, a form of Peruvian cumbia called chicha, and funk covers of both Black Sabbath and Public Enemy. What each configuration has in common is the almost telepathic bond the band has developed after 15 years of working stages across the country. As you can see on the video, it's so infectious that Prince once used them for a while as a back-up band.Inch
