Joan as Police Woman - The Solution Is Restless - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Already acknowledged as a thrilling live performer and starkly honest lyricist, Damned Devotion finds Joan Wasserat her rawest. While her 2014 album The Classic was a soulful celebration of life and her 2011 album The Deep Field a rich moody expansion, this new sees her stripping her compositions back to the core, the bare-all lyricism and timeless melodies harking back to her accolade-winning album To Survive (2008) and her universally acclaimed debut Real Life (2006). InchMy maxim is if it feels scary to say it, it's the thing you must say,Inch Joan says. On Damned Devotion the thoughtful lyricism is married to Joan as Police Woman's most accessible music to date.

Joan As Police Womans's 12th studio album, Lemons, Limes, and Orchids is a crowning showcase of her voice in all it's metamorphic splendour. InchI was ready to make an album that truly featured my voice. The basics were recorded like they used to be- with me singing live along with the band. My good friend told me this is the sexiest album I've ever made. Honestly, I think she's right.Inch The record is a nocturne about love and loss - what else is there? - and a reckoning with our collective disorientation, part hymn to holding on and part benediction of letting go. Joan has toured the globe, performing in dive bars and symphony halls, at independent music festivals and on the BBC, and has collaborated with a kaleidoscope of luminaries, including Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, Tony Allen, Damon Albarn, John Cale, Laurie Anderson, Sufjan Stevens, Anohni, Beck, Meshell Ndegeocello, Toshi Reagon, David Byrne, and Daniel Johnston. She has participated in three Africa Express trips and teaches at NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.
