Originally formed in 1942, the legendary Brazilian vocal group Os Cariocas became one of the most influential voices of bossa nova. The Girl from Ipanema was the first album by Antônio Carlos Jobim and features a dozen instrumentals arranged by Claus Ogerman, whose work would mark the beginning of a lifelong musical relationship with Jobim. Of these twelve songs, nearly all of them are jazz standards. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1939, Jorge Ben's characteristic style fuses samba, funk, rock and bossa nova with lyrics that blend humor and satire with often esoteric subject matter. His hits include InchChove ChuvaInch, InchMas Que NadaInch, InchI've BrusselInch and InchBalança PemaInch, and have been interpreted by artists such as Caetano Veloso, Sérgio Mendes, Miriam Makeba, Soulfly and Marisa Monte. The song InchMas Que NadaInch, included here as a bonus, was his first big hit in Brazil, and to this day it remains the most played song in the United States sung entirely in Portuguese.
