Joel Weiskopf - Where Angels Fear to Tread - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Joel Weiskopf - The Message [COMPACT DISCS] date 10/15/2017

Momentary sketches, moments of eternity The works that pianist Minsoo Hong has selected for his new GENUIN CD make up a compelling and diverse program and present a portrait of the composers on this recording. The young, upcoming musician, who has already won various international prizes - including the Busoni Piano Competition and the Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht - has recorded Franz Liszt's InchLegendsInch, Karol Szymanowski's InchMasksInch and Robert Schumann's InchCarnavalInch. On this album, he not only demonstrates his highly virtuosic pianistic skills but also offers the listener a poetic reflection on identity and facade, art and that which defines our lives!

Highly spiritual & musically steadfast, pianist Joel Weiskopf has been making heads turn for quite some time with appearances on his brother Walt's acclaimed series of recordings before traveling on his own maiden voyage as a leader. Here he gives a broader picture of his talents as both a pianist & writer, backed by his brother on tenor, John Swana on trumpet, John Patitucci on bass & Jeff Brillinger on drums. Joel presents 8 distinctive compositions that are as deeply satisfying as they are harmonically complex & innovative.
