Johann Rosenmuller Ensemble - Kaiserkronung Leopold I. (1658) - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Johann Rosenmüller (1619-1684) spent more than a decade at the Thomasschule in Leipzig and was already considered the new Thomaskantor when his promising career was abruptly interrupted accused of pederasty, he had to flee Leipzig in 1655, went first to Hamburg and then to Venice, where he worked for the next 28 years. In Catholic Venice he wrote church music in Latin - the German sacred concerts presented on this , however, probably all originate from his Leipzig period.

Having studied Jazz and Contemporary Music at the New School in New York City and subsequently collaborated with artists like Iggy Pop and Metronomy, Pan Amsterdam blends experimental hip hop, jazz, funk, and electronic influences, resulting in shapeshifting, genre-defying tracks. Confines, reflects Pan Amsterdam's refusal to be confined by genre. The music channels influences from hip hop's golden age, alongside nods to artists like Kool Keith, Busta Rhymes, and MF Doom. Confines is a personal turning point for Thomas, dedicated to his late father and embracing his rebirth as Pan Amsterdam after years of frustration in the jazz scene. With a stream-of-consciousness style Confines explores diverse themes, from racial politics and identity to pop culture references. This mix of humor, social commentary, and introspection is an exploration of the world through a childlike, almost alien perspective and his background in gospel, jazz, hip hop, and even the Grateful Dead shapes this eclectic sound.

First time on CD for this 1987 album from this outfit led by guitarist/singer Gordon Gano of Violent Femmes fame. Featuring Zena Von Heppinstall on vocals. Wounded Bird. 2009.
