John Antill - Corroboree An Outback Overture - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Known as 'the elder statesman of New Zealand classical music', Douglas Lilburn was instrumental in establishing a genuinely vernacular voice. All the works on this recording portray New Zealand's culture through an idiom instantly recognizable to listener.

The marches that Elgar wrote, whether for public occasions or as an incidental part of other works, represent only one aspect of his achievement as a composer.

Illustrating a generally little known facet of Elgar' music, this recording brings together a number of works on which the composer had worked in childhood.
