Containing the chart-topping singles 'American Pie' and 'Vincent,' the record reached number one on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold within six months of . Recorded in May and June 1971 at The Record Plant in New York City, the original 1971 LP is dedicated to Buddy Holly. McLean recorded his debut album Tapestry in 1969 in Berkeley, California, during the student riots. After being rejected 72 times by labels, the album was released by Mediarts, a tag that did not exist when Don first started to look for a tag. It attracted good reviews but little notice outside the folk community, though on the Easy Listening chart InchCastles In The AirInch was a success, and in 1973 InchAnd I Love You SoInch became a number 1 Adult Contemporary hit for Perry Como. McLean's major break came when Mediarts was taken over by United Artists Records, thus securing the promotion of a major tag for his second album, American Pie. The album spawned two No. 1 hits in the title song and InchVincentInch. It was released on August 3rd, 1987 and is the band's best-selling album to date, selling over 25 million copies worldwide and charting at #1 on the Billboard 200 in the US. Featuring the singles 'Animal', 'Women', 'Pour Some Sugar On Me', 'Hysteria', 'Armageddon It', 'Love Bites', and 'Rocket'. The album charted at #1 on both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart. Hysteria was produced by Robert John InchMuttInch Lange. The title of the album was thought up by drummer Rick Allen, referring to his 1984 auto accident and the ensuing worldwide media coverage surrounding it. Limited vinyl LP repressing in gatefold jacket. Off the Wall is the fifth solo studio album by Michael Jackson. It was released on August 10, 1979, following Jackson's critically well-received film performance in The Wiz. While working on that project, Jackson and Quincy Jones had become friends, and Jones agreed to work with Jackson on his next studio album. Recording sessions took place between December 1978 and June 1979 at Allen Zentz Recording, Westlake Recording Studios, and Cherokee Studios in Los Angeles, California. Jackson collaborated with a number of other writers and performers such as Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Rod Temperton. Five singles were released from the album.
