Josh Moshier - Joy Not Jaded - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Josh Nelson's series of interactive multi-media projects over the last several years have focused on space (2015's InchExploring MarsInch) and science fiction ephemera (2011's InchDiscoveriesInch). The latest manifestation of InchThe Discovery ProjectInch comes back to earth with InchThe Sky Remains,Inch Josh's love letter to Los Angeles, where he was born and raised. Avoiding the many cliches surrounding it's culture, Josh presents stories that reveal a fascinating history, from forgotten architecture and landmarks that shaped daily living, to the abundant wealth of creative and inspired individuals who have flocked to and defined life in LA over the last century. With vocalists Kathleen Grace & Lillian Sengpiehl and a stellar ensemble featuring guitarist Anthony Wilson, Josh's thoughtful musical framing of it's ongoing story adds another chapter to Los Angeles' cultural anthology. InchToo often we tear down and forget to make way for a re-imagined tomorrow, but the sky remains the same.Inch Inch... The most accomplished of the younger L.A. jazz pianist-arrangers... The small ensemble music in this collection is often lyrical, harmonically rich and elegant.Inch - Downbeat

On his seventh for Posi-Tone, trumpeter Josh Lawrence delivers a thrilling, heartfelt exploration of works by Thelonious Monk and Frédéric Chopin. Still We Dream combines fiery post-bop drive with classical elegance, resulting in a suite of reimagined pieces that move seamlessly between jazz tradition and forward-thinking improvisation. With an all-star ensemble including Diego Rivera (tenor sax), Art Hirahara (piano), Boris Kozlov (bass), and Rudy Royston (drums), Lawrence strikes a compelling balance between intellectual depth and emotional resonance. A standout that bridges eras and genres with imagination and soul.

Jackiem burst onto the scene with his babysoul on the tiny ARTizen imprint. His second, Lil' Man Soul on Artistry Music, exploded his pop/urban melodies across the breadth of contemporary jazz consciousness via two #1 singles (InchI'm Waiting for YouInch and InchTake Me ThereInch) which have together logged at this writing a total of over 21 weeks at the apex of the charts. His newest, the eponymous Jackiem Joyner, boasts yet more radio-friendly tracks including the single InchDance with Me.Inch the young composer/producer also stretches into new territory with the Slash-like guitar burn of InchPushInch and the syncopated marching band drum opening of InchThe Reunion.Inch All are sure to be favorites on the Joyner concert trail as he maintains double duty with both his band and as part of Keiko Matsui's outfit. As ever, Jackiem eschews the trends of big-name producers and guest stars, and does almost all of it himself - playing, producing and composing. There are a couple covers Aerosmith's InchI Don't Want to Miss a ThingInch and the King of Pop's own InchOff the Wall,Inch and a guest guitar solo from Paul Jackson Jr. on InchTurn It UpInch (which he captured while both were on tour in Reading PA).
