About this product
The Joy grew up on Ladysmith Black Mambazo, but their harmonies harken back to another vocal tradition. Mbube meaning 'lion', gives some indication of the elemental power it's practitioners summon when bursting into song. In this part of South Africa, where the Zulu tradition of a cappella singing is central to the cultural identity of it's people, you'll have to transcend the sum of your constituent parts to truly command attention. But singing together as teenage boys for the first time, Pastor (Ntokozo Bright Magcaba), Duzie (Melokuhle Mkhungo), Guduza (Sphelele Hlophe), Sthombe (Phelelani Sithole) and Marcus (Sanele Ngcobo) have no reason to pause and consider that. Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson pronounce themselves fans, the latter calling them Inchmy favourite groupInch. Sessions produced by longtime champion Two Inch Punch amass millions of streams either in spite or because of the fact that they correspond to nothing else competing for your attention in the modern musical firmament. Southern California psychedelic savages Joy have signed to Tee Pee! The sound of Joy has been described as 'a spaced-out sonic groove-ride' and 'outer reach freak out,' but that hyperbole alone doesn't do justice to the group's measured mode of attack. Joy puts a premium on establishing both structure and dynamics, it's kaleidoscopic flurry and full-throttle riffage is anchored by both subtle detail and surprising textural depth. Prepare to fall UNDER THE SPELL OF JOY! Features special appearances by guest musicians Nik Turner (Hawkwind) and Parker Griggs (Radio Moscow)! Album Tracks 1. Unter the Spell 2. Miles Away 3. Confusion 4. Evil 5. One More Time 6. Driving Me Insane 7. Death Hymn Blues 8. Back to the Sun
