About this product
Vinyl LP pressing. 2019 from renowned mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato. Songplay is sure to delight not only listeners of opera, but listeners of jazz and tango as well. The album brings together musicians from numerous genres, hand-picked by DiDonato in a band led by pianist and arranger Craig Terry. Among them are bassist Chuck Isreals, drummer Jimmy Madison, Lautaro Greco on the bandoneon, and trumpeter Charlie Porter. Joyce DiDonato greets you with a song in her heart and twinkle in her eye. The American mezzo-soprano's album Songplay unites world-class musicians from the varied worlds of opera, jazz and tango in the pure pleasure of improvisation, experimentation and exchange. Together they create their own musical language, surprising listeners with timeless melodies transformed and universal stories retold over centuries; songs in English, in Italian and - naturally - in the universal language of music. On Songplay, along with her hand-picked band led by pianist and arranger Craig Terry, Joyce draws inspiration from Cavalli and Chet Baker in equal measure. The languishing heart in Giordani's Caro mio ben is as emotionally charged as Jerry Bock's hopeful Will he like me?. Perhaps the most compelling reminder of how the music of Songplay breaks down divides is from DiDonato's experience leading vocal and composition workshops in the New York prison Sing Sing, where one of the men who is incarcerated was particularly moved upon hearing her rendition of Caro mio ben 'I feel like I've known this song my whole life.' Album Tracks 1. Arie Antiche, Book 1 InchSe Tu M'amiInch / InchStar VicinoInch (Arr. Terry for Jazz Ensemble) 2. InchTu Lo SaiInch (Arr. Terry for Jazz Ensemble) 3. (I'm Afraid) the Masquerade Is Over (Arr. Terry for Jazz Ensemble) 4. InchLullaby of BirdlandInch (Arr. Terry for Jazz Ensemble) 1. Arsilda, Regina Di Ponto, RV 700, Act 1 Inch

Vinyl LP pressing. InchEden is an invitation to return to our roots. It is an overture to engage with the sheer perfection of the world around us, to consider if we are connecting as profoundly as we can to the pure essence of our being. It is a clarion call to contemplate if our collective suffering isn't perhaps linked to the aching separation from something primal within and around us. This is a vivid musical exploration through the centuries to remember and to create a new Eden from within.Inch - Joyce DiDonato Album Tracks 1. The Unanswered Question 2. WINTER & WINTER conceives a canon of the most extraordinary piano works of world literature performed by the unique French artist Jean-Pierre Collot. After Hans Abrahamsen's InchSchneeInch (with ensemble recherche), the album InchUniverseInch (Claude Debussy in dialogue with Salvatore Sciarrino), InchEspaces ImaginairesInch (with premiere recordings of Jean Barraque's masterpieces) now the Goethe texts Restless Love, An Schwager Kronos, Meeresstille, Erlkönig and Gretchen am Spinnrade inspire the composers Hugues Dufourt and Schubert/Liszt to dedicate themselves to Sturm und Drang, a German movement of the late 18th century that exalted nature, feeling, and human individualism and sought to overthrow the Enlightenment cult of Rationalism. Goethe and Schiller began their careers as prominent members of the movement. Album Tracks 1. Rastlose Liebe 2. Rastlose Liebe 3. An Schwager Kronos 4. An Schwager Kronos 5. Meeresstille 6.
