Julia Bardo - Bauhaus, L'Appartamento - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Bauhaus, L'Appartamento, produced and mixed by Younghusband's Euan Hinshelwood, firmly establishes Bardo's musical adventurousness and prowess, and marks a cathartic and self-affirming moment for an artist who found her voice by realizing it's been there all along. Each track on the album opens a new door. In the resonant and memorable opener InchThe Most,Inch Bardo is bold in her declaration of romance and devotion. The twinkling, gauzy guitars of InchDo This To MeInch find Bardo world-weary and desperate for resolution. The off-kilter distortion of InchImpossibleInch and it's spoken word in her native tongue see Bardo's Italian roots become entwined with the '90s American artists whose music continues to inspire her. She raises awareness for the importance of mental health with last year's single InchIt's Okay (To Not Be Okay)Inch. The album is best summed up by the woman who wrote it all InchBauhaus, L'Appartamento is about loneliness, solitude, separation... but also unconditional love,Inch Bardo reveals of the record's overarching themes. InchFamily, emotional dependency, mental health issues, feelings of emptiness and numbness, feelings of not being enough, inability to be in control of my own emotions, self-doubt, self-reflection, past traumas and dealing with them.Inch01 The Most 02 No Feeling 03 Into Your Eyes 04 Love Out Of Control 05 The One 06 Do This To Me 07 Impossible 08 It's Okay (To Not Be Okay) 09 The Greatest 10 Goodbye Tomorrow

Italian-born, Manchester-based Julia Bardo started to gain attention at the start of 2019 with her debut single 'Desire' and bewitching live appearances as well as a stint as guitarist in one of the UK's buzziest bands, Working Men's Club. This debut EP - co-produced by Julia and Henry Carlyle Wade of The Orielles and mixed by Ali Chant (Aldous Harding/Cate Le Bon) - looks set to firmly establish her as an artist to watch. From the opening heartbreak ballad 'Into Your Eyes' which showcases Julia's striking vocals through to irresistible girl group-tinged chorus of final song 'I Wanna Feel Love' each song here sounds like it could be a classic and hints at what we can expect from her debut LP due later this year.1. 2022 . If you can't trust yourself, who can you trust? This is the crucial question at the core of Julia, Julia, the moniker for Julia Kugel, founding member of garage punk icons The Coathangers and the dream pop duo Soft Palms. On her first solo full-length album Derealization, Kugel shifts her focus from collaboration and band dynamics towards a singular artistic vision and private self-discovery. Steeped in the beguiling pop elements of her past work, Derealization is a meditative deep dive into the mind of a person struggling to understand a crumbling internal and external world. The album traverses a landscape of ethereal folk, atmospheric deconstructed pop, and dubbed-out country ballads, all centered around straight forward and direct lyrics. This juxtaposition of nebulousness and lucidity gives the album a sense of clarity emerging from the haze, an apt reflection of Kugel's personal growth and journey toward self-acceptance. Derealization is based on weaving the unreal, unsaid, and unknown into an undulating sonic fabric. Vocal layering and abstract instrumentation convey a blurred desperation to connect to an emotional and psychological focal point. Moody, dark, and sumptuous, the record is a flow chart of Julia Kugel coming into herself as an artist and songwriter. The album finds Julia playing almost all the instruments and taking her first stab at engineering at COMA, her and her husband's home recording studio in Long Beach, CA.
