I went from a Panasonic PT-AE1000U to this magnific projector! Wow!!! Going from a dynamic iris projector that could only do 11K:1 on a good day, to a native 40K:1 to infinity with the dynamic contract ratio is just amazing. The picture quality is an extremally extra sharp image with is larger lens 80 mm and pixel area (.69-inch 4K D-ILA Devices (x3) vs. .61-inch SXRD on the Sony), the colors look real, and the contrast is outstanding. Now, some of you may say why didn’t you go with Sony for the same price or cheaper? Well, when I saw it on display at Best Buy, I was not impressed. It seemed to take awhile to boot up. I also saw where the pixels did not seem to align; could have been the setup at Best Buy locally. It just did not seem to be a sharp 4K image either. I also looked at the Epson projector on display as well, with its “fake 4K” image and you could see misalignment of pixels everywhere, pass. With the JVC, you can align the native 4K panels as well do a pinpoint in ten areas. I also like the fact that you can download the calibration software to ensure the colors are accurate as the laser ages by using a SpyderX Elite monitor calibration equipment. In extremely bright scenes, the lamp/light source at full power, and the audio is super quiet, you will hear the cooling fans. I would hear them on my other projector before, so it is not a big deal to me. (Remember how loud the fans would get on the old CRT projectors? Some of them sounded like a plane coming during the bright scenes!). The projector does an amazing job presenting all types of video format. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well DVDs and other lower quality upscaled content looked on this projector. Whatever magical chips they have inside, they do an excellent job making it look life like and hi-res. If you are looking for a high refresh rate for gaming (120 FPS), do not look at this projector since it tops out at 60 FPS at 2160p. Overall, I am incredibly pleased with my purchase due to the PRO quality elements, picture quality, and the configuration options this project presents. I will recommend this projector over the Sony to friends that want to continue the “silver screen” feel/experience in their home theaters. Plus, I now have a “laser” in the house. How cool is that??? Note – Best Buy did not have this projector on display in the Milwaukee area. I read multiple reviews and watched multiple videos on this projector to make my choice. I suggest they replace the Epson “fake 4K” and start showing this product instead.

JVC NZ500 vs. Epson 5050UB Review Image Quality: The JVC NZ500 offers a significant upgrade with its native 4K D-ILA technology, providing sharper details and deeper contrasts than the Epson 5050UB's 4K Enhancement Technology. The NZ500's ∞:1 contrast ratio outperforms the 5050UB, delivering richer blacks and vibrant colors. Brightness and Color: The Epson 5050UB excels in brighter environments with 2,600 lumens, while the NZ500, though slightly dimmer at 2,200 lumens, offers superior color purity and consistency thanks to its laser light source. The NZ500's HDR performance is enhanced with frame-by-frame optimization. Features: The NZ500 stands out with advanced features like Frame Adapt HDR and HDR10+ support, optimizing viewing quality based on content and environment. The 5050UB remains user-friendly with robust calibration tools and motorized lens controls. Overall: The JVC NZ500 is the better choice for a dedicated home theater setup, offering advanced technology and superior image quality. The Epson 5050UB is still competitive for environments with variable lighting.

I updated from a 1080P Sony VPL-HW45ES to this projector. The difference is unbelievable - the 4K picture is bright and super sharp. I wouldn't let the 2000 lumens hold you back. This is bright! And the laser means no more light bulb changes! The contrast ratio of 40,000 : 1 is amazing. I know this projector might not be the best for gaming due to refresh rate, but I don't see any concerns with motion. My setup: 110" 16:9 Sreen Innovations screen with a 0.85 gray screen.
